Power awning will not retract

We have a 2012 Crossroad Slingshot M19 with a Dometic power awning. Today we went to close it and all I heard was a click when pressing on the retract button,
I read the awning manual and it said to go unplug the connector on the awning by the motor and put 12 volt power from my truck battery and jump it to the motor connector and all it did was click. Motor did not retract.
Is there another method to check the motor to see if it is bad?. While I was up there I took my multimeter and checked the volts coming out of the connector from the camper and it only had 8.8 volts. Not close to 12 volts. Should it be 12 volts feeding the motor?

Also the manual says to take out a screw , and use the strap to roll it back up manually. Does this work?

Any help or suggestions will be helpful for sure. We plan on taking it out this weekend, and sure would be great to have the awning working.

Not sure about checking the motor but mine has a manual override in case something happens and it's out to get it back in. Theres a rubber plug on the end of the awning at the big part. If it has this plug then you pull the plug out and you can use a cordless drill and a 7/16 socket to manually power the awning out or in until you find the problem.

Thanks for the info , when I get off of work today I will get my ladder and see if it has the plug you mention on the end. Would it be on the motor end?

On mine it's on the front end of the camper. If you have one it won't be hard to see.

Just checked and they don't have any plug to remove to get a cordless drill to retract it. Had to remove screws to roll it up to camper, and can get only one screw to line up. At least it is up. Thanks for the info Papa t

Papa it looks like I need a new motor, does not work even with 12 volt hooked direct to it.. the motor is close to 500 dollars.
Do you or anyone reading this , know of a conversion kit to switch it to a manual awning? It is a dometic 9100 series awning.
converting it to a manual would be great not having to worry about another motor going out.
Any info is appreciated.

Not sure if you can covert or not. I would think no since most manual awnings have a different system but maybe someone else will jump in with more info. EBay has dometic 9100 series awning motors new from 249-300. Might check these out. Also http://www.rvpartscountry.com has new motors for 300.00.

Another thought

I would call Grainger.

https://www.grainger.com

I've bought just the 12V motors for my Pellet Stove for 1/2 the cost of OEM. Just the motor, had to put it in the existing housing.

Do you have a local community college or High School tech college? Might be able to find an electrical class that could trouble shoot and repair for parts. Just a thought.

One other thing. How old is it? Does the awning/motor have it's own warranty? Some components like heaters and stuff have their own manufacturer warranties that are longer than the warranty on the whole RV.

Good luck.

You may be able to rebuild the motor. I did that to a water pump before...turned out it was a magnet that came loose , simply glued it back and worked great.
Doesn't hurt to look.

Just letting yall know, my wife and I took the awning all apart today, and removed the motor. Found burned out shorted wires in the roller support. We went and bought a new motor at camping world, took our time and got it all together and works great!! Took us about 4 hours but it is done.

We thank yall again for all your info on this, helped us out.

What price did CW have? Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and get it done.

The price for the motor with Good Sam discount was 375 at camping world. Don't know what the labor charge would have been, but we did it our selves, saved the labor and know it is done right. It works great now.

With some know how and confidence, many of the rv repairs can be done by yourself. Great effort.
