Propane issues, help needed
One of my longtime friends Son and Daughter in law purchased a Heartland Torque series TH last June rather than buying a house. This thing has some serious issues other than what I am posing right now, so Heartland will be a brand I will steer away from. Saddening for a $76,000 unit really.
On with this question..
They have the (2) 30lb tanks hooked up and running fine. They tried using (1) 100lb tank on one side of their switch over valve and are having issues with the heater firing up. They can utilize the oven and all those burners just fine, but it will not work the furnace. They can go back to the other tanks and no issue. Hope I am clear in describing this issue they are having. Can anyone help?

Just guessing here but it sounds to me like there is an issue with the extra tank. It might be a flow issue or maybe a pressure issue. The furnace may be more sensitive to a pressure problem than the stove. Is there a regulator on the larger tank? Does the water heater work on the larger tank?

From my understanding they were hooking directly to the bigger tank utilizing the OEM changeover valve/regulator unit on their TH.

Apparently either the regulator or the switch over valve doesn't like the big tank.
If it was me, I would call the company that they get their LP from and either ask them, or have them come out to check it over.
when there are problems or issues with LP, it's better to be safe then sorry.
I know KamperDave runs a bigger tank when they are working out in Yellow Stone.

Have them turn the switchover valve to the bigger tank (with both tanks off) and only open the big tank slowly ,leave the 30 # off. might be because there are 2 different size tanks.??

I like what Stan said about the water heater...I would see if it and the refrigerator work on the BIG tank and then go from there...Might need an extra pressure regulator on the BIG tank...
Lloyd had a good suggestion PM KamperDave...I think Concreteman also uses a bigger tank when he's on the job site...

propane issues
we do this every winter parked in Az. You may need to bleed the supply line from the larger tank before you attach to the regulator. Be careful I shut off water heater and fridge, then open valve on large tank until air and any fluid are clear. Reattach to regulator using pipe thread sealer.

If they plan on traveling with it, they should check the local regulations before trying to take a 100 lb. propane tank. Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel permits 120 lbs. of propane in two 60 lb. tanks. I'm sure CBBT is not alone in regulations like this.

I've replaced many regulators. And always have a backup on hand. There are different quality brands out there.

We always open the vent and like to 'test' the propane with the cooktop as that is the only visually indication that the propane is actually flowing (and it also will purge the lines the quickest - just have to have a flame to start it right at first !!!)
but does sound like a regulator issue...
could be that:
the extra tank does NOT have a regulator and should or vice versa...
Always open newer tanks very slowly as they have sudden leak cutoffs if the flow changes too much...

Update!!
They ordered a longer hose to attach to the OEM regulator. That was the only change and everything works as it should now. I don't know if the longer (5 ft) hose had a bigger orifice in the fittings or what but no matter. They are able to use their 100lb tank with no issues.
