Hello Again...

Just read Tom's post about the problems he had with his Tow/Haul setting on his Ford. I too own a Ford (F-250 SD) but have never used my Tow/Haul pulling my Cruiser or my 12' Utility trailer. Should I be using Tow/Haul?

Thanks...

Dean

I use T/H when in heavy stop and go driving or when going up and down hills. If I am on a fairly flat hiway then I stay in Drive. It might also depend on the TV. If the trans and engine are working hard in drive, then T/H would be better.

I run T/H all the time in my truck. I like the way it shifts so I run it empty or towing. It still drops into OD above 50 mph.

All the new tow haul systems do is to change the shift points by electronics It will keep you in certain gears longer. If you have a power stroke, or Duramax with high torque curves, Than I would use the tow haul. It will keep you in the torque range longer

I can tell a difference when I forget to put it in T/H.Seems sluggest to me.I haven't tried, but the down shift might only work in T/H.But like rhenn said,it just holds the gear longer so as not to shift in and out so much when pulling. It still has overdrive as before.

One other thing it does for my truck while empty is lower the trans temp 5* to 7* in T/H as opposed to not. I have seen no difference in mileage with or without T/H while empty so I just run it all the time. I prefer firmer shifts with T/H.

I always run it when towing, I love the way it shifts in t/h with the exception at 35mph it will not shift to the next gear so you have to run slow or fast + or _ at least 5 mph.

I always use tow/haul mode when I'm pulling our CF30SK. As previously mentioned, T/H widens the shift points but it also tightens up the shifts. This prevents the clutches from overheating, causing premature wear to them. T/H was put into the transmissions computer program to protect the transmission when hauling or towing.

I always use the tow haul mode, I like the shift points and it sure helps holding you back in the hills, sure saves on the brakes

I use tow haul all the time I am towing the camper. It goes into OD a little later than without it but it keeps it from shifting in and out. It also helps with downshifting and saving the brakes. Tow haul will also learn over time your driving habits. I know there was a post some time back that a member had problems with tow haul but finely the dealer cleared the memory and had no more troubles.

I have a 07.5 Silverado with the 6.6 Duramax/6 Spd Allison. Although the truck easily pulls my 08 32SB - I use the tow/haulmode when I am on backroads, or in slower traffic in hilly terrain. I noticed only a slight decrease in mileage. Lots of posts on this - it really will depend on your preference.
