Looking for thoughts on putting the Cruiser 5r on jack stands while I have the tires replaced? My hope was just bring in the tires and not the whole unit as the tire place doesn't have most ideal parking lot or room for preforming the service. Any thoughts on leaving the trailer sitting on jack stands for the day? Comments / Thoughts are most appreciated.

As long as they are rated to hold the weight, and you are on a solid level surface I wouldn't worry about it.

I blocked mine up with a floor jack holding a beam across the frame behind the rear axle, front on the landing gear.

I recently replaced the tires on my Cruiser the same way you want to do it.
I used blocking under the brake drums on both sides. I would think the jack stands would be just fine if they are rated heavy enough for the weight.

If you are nervous about it you could just do one tire at a time.

Hello Salda01,

Jacking up the total unit makes me nervous. I would just do one side at a time.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />

And then where do you jack it from? The RV center said to NEVER jack your RV on the axle; ONLY from the frame. I guess they feel that the axle is thin enough to damage. Of course, they did not say where on the frame.

This is what we did:

We jacked up right rear wheel from beneath the spring U-bolts, then removed the wheel and put on the spare. Moved the jack to the front axle U-bolt and jacked up the front right wheel and removed it.

We sanded the rims and painted then with Krylon fast drying paint and took the 2 wheels to the Tire Center to have the tires and valve stems replaced and the wheels balanced. (The folks at the tire center were great!) We ran the two new mounted tires home and placed then on the RV and started on the left side. By mid afternoon the RV had 4 new tires and good looking rims.

I did not have to worry about it falling off the jacks or moving the propane pipe.

However you decide to proceed; be careful.

With highest regards.

Kamper Dave

I did one side at a time and put the spare on one axle. Took two tires over to the shop for balancing and new stems while I did the wheel bearings. I have 4 jacks stands that would support the trailer but my parking pad is unlevel and graveland Ididn't feel like moving it out into the street to do the work.

I always jack up my whole camper to do bearing work or brake adjust.

Thanks for the input... I think I'll go with only doing 1 side at a time and using the spare. Although I do know from personal experience that one axle can support the trailer. It's not a pretty sight and the tires look like they are begging for mercy, but it can be done to load it on a Low Boy recovery trailer.

If you go on Lippert's web site they will tell you to put blocks or stands by the tires when removing the tire.

I think that the manufacture tells you to jack on the frame to CYA. I've always jacked on the axle as close to the tire as possible without problems but have also only done 1 tire at a time. It's kind of a pain when re-packing bearings but don't forget there's a lot of weight there on those axles.Believe it or no people have lifted close tothe center point and of course you would be placing a lot of strese on the axle. If you are close to you tire dealer tell them your situation and I'm sure they'llaccomodate your needs. If not get your jack stands as close to the brake drums as possible and even put down your stabilizer jacks.

Hello,

I found these warnings on the web. Lippert support / Axle Inst. Manuals.

( good torque informationhere also )

http://www.lci1.com/OwnersManuals/Tr...20Axle-Web.pdf

see pages: 5, 11, 14 & 24.

Lift unit by the frame and never the axle or suspension. Do not go

under unit unless it is properly supported by jack stands. Unsupported

units can fall causing serious injury or death.

Yeh and it also tells you on page 24 for periods of 90 days or greater to store your RV on jack stands taking the weight off the axels and tires. HMMMM in case anybody from Lippert is reading this I always park my RV on jack stands for extended periods of time. I'm not saying to go agaist their procedures if you're concerned about warrenty issues, but please take the precautions required to do it safely and use some common sense. Edited by: ryeja
