roof coating ?
Installed a vent cover on 2011 cruiser today. RV has never been covered and roof needs new coating of some kind. Any suggestions of what type to use. Something i can use a roller and do myself.

Are you sure the roof needs a coating? The membrane should still be OK for a 2011 model. Mine is 10 years old and still OK - also not covered. If you can wash it real well (i.e. scrub) and treat it you may be OK. If you do need to coat it, I used a RV coating from the hardware store on a previous rig (I got it at ACE). It is a rubber compound that you roll on and is white. It worked well for what I wanted but you could definitely tell the roof was coated.

Thanks Stan, 98% is ok, but i noticed a small area of small blisters near the rear. Didn't notice any other spots. It was tough puttin' on that vent cover here in Austin. It's 75 degrees today. My nephew is in the oil fields in N Dakota. Some days i don't mind being old and retired !!

Seeing as your rig is a 2011, I would agree with Stan. Unless of course the roof has received any damage.
Small blisters shouldn't be a bother. I have them on mine.
You might be surprised as to how good it will look after a good cleaning.
As far as using a treatment on it afterwards, I don't believe they recommend treating it with anything.

Good to know. I have washed once and had it done once. Think I'll give it a wash with dicor and then uv protection with dicor.

Alpha ply, TPO, EPDM. Not a clue. I'll check owners manual, see if i can find out. I know it appears to be some sort of "rubberized" surface. Seems like the more is learn, the less I know. I would think all 2011 Crossroads Cruisers would have same material on roof.

It is very important to clean the roof as best as possible to prolong the life of the coating. Better to do the cleaning on your hands and knees, helps identify any problems with caulk or pin holes/cuts in the membrane. Then you can use a sponge mop to put on the coating.

Do you coat the Alpha Ply? I know it doesn't chalk like the rubber does?

The manufacturer does not recommend putting a protection coat over the roof. If it is an Alpha roof. from the company:
Quote:
Alpha's membrane is quite inert and will resist weathering well. It does not require the periodic application of products to protect it from ultra-violet light or ozone. In fact, these products can often cause damage to the roof membrane.
