Running Heater with propane turned off

Hi,

I was a away for a week and my wife went out to the RV in the drive to get some privacy. She turned on the heat but didn't realize I had turned the propane off.

I noticed it a few days after I got home when I heard sounds coming from the furnace vent outside.

Was there any harm done to the unit in having it run with the propane off?

Thanks,
Mike

On most (if not all) RV furnaces, the fan will just keep running when you shut off propane. I have never heard of anything being hurt that way.

Typically with no gas to the furnace it would try to fire off a few times then time out til you turn it off to reset. It seems odd to me that the furnace fan would continue to run without it igniting, but it is a rv so anything is possible.
If by chance you have the tstat fan switch set to "hi" or "low" rather than "auto" the air conditioner fan will run continuously, but this setting has no effect on the furnace fan.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, she had the fan set to "on" instead of "auto".

Glad the furnace is still good. I wanted to check with y'all before I tried to fire it up.

With the fan set to on the air conditioner fan would be running not the furnace. Usually the furnace when it fails to ignite will try 3 times then go into lock out mode. You would have to turn the thermostat off wait a little bit then try again. Sometimes you have to turn off the power to get it to reset. That being said it will not hurt the furnace.

I agree with dags. After 3 unsuccessful attempts of furnace to ignite, the unit will lick out (usually for 15-30 minutes) until the gas is turned on and reset.
It does not harm anything.
Regarding the Tstat & AC fan, On my unit the a/c fan will only run when plugged in to shore power.
