Rv Satellite questions

Good morning all, I have some questions about rv satellites
I am considering purchasing either a Dish Playmaker or Dish Tailgater with a Wally receiver. I am leaning towards the Playmaker because of it being approximately $70 cheaper however if the Tailgater is superior I will go in that direction.
Can these units be connected to the satellite connection on the back of the trailer with the receiver being connected to the connection in the cabinet above the tv (with the ota antenna turned off)

Can you get local tv channels with the Dish month to month plan or do I need to just go back to the OTA antenna

Can these be simply put on the ground or is a tripod recommended

Can they get a satellite connection on days with heavy cloud cover

Any advice and experiences are appreciated

Thanks
Dave

Dave-

Had an early Tailgater (2009) I think. Switched to Playmaker first year out because of smaller size for storage. Still have it and has worked very well. It works with connections as you describe. Local channels are available (extra fee) and conveniently managed for different locations by the MyDish app as are monthly payments and startup after a pause. I use it on the ground and only once on the top of the trailer to get above bushes. Has worked with heavy clouds but not heavy rain. Had to clear it off frequently during snow once. All in all, am very satisfied with the setup as I can follow my alma mater's teams in all seasons. Go Utes!!

Dave,
We went with a Dish Tailgater Pro several years ago. Only issue we ever had were campgrounds with lots of tall trees that blocked a South Western view of the satellites. We have dish at home so it only costs us $5.00 a month and get the same channels we get at home including local channels. Also have a tripod which keeps mud/dirt from splashing on the dish when it rains. Shop around for the best price, Amazon, Dish, and even Camping World. Believe it or not when we bought ours we got the best price at Camping World (that doesn't happen often).
