I am trying to find out the differences between the American RVIA certification and the Canadian CSA. Iwant to know what the different requirements are. I have been told that Alberta is now allowing RVIA certified trailers to be sold there without paying for the CSA certification.

Can anyone help??

You are correct on that RVIA comment in Alberta just has been introduced here. I have been looking at bringing one up from the U.S. and thinking about that as well. It was suggested to me the only time it may come up would be at a later time and trying to sell or trade it without CSA aprroval may not move as easy. I am personally not concerned but for future selling it may. When we order ours we will just pay the extra and make sure it is CSA then not have to worry.

I don't think you can register and insure without the CSA approval. My dad was just looking into buying a trailer in Ohio to bring back to Alberta and would have had to have it CSA approved before his insurance would be validated. I asked if the CSA could be done there (at the dealer) and he said no that it has to be done in Canada. Canadian Tire would do the certification for about $130. That has me wondering where are our trailers certified (Canadian models).

Most of the CSA standards on a trailer have to do with the electrical and plumbing systems as well as the running gear. If the RVIA standards meet the CSAstandards then there is no reason not to be able to register a US purchased trailer in Canada.

Thank you all for your info. What has happened is we purchased our fifth last fall from a local dealer in Ottawa, Ontario and have just found out it is not certified CSA, we need to know what needs to be done to certify it. I may have to go after the dealer as I will probably be unable to sell it in Canada now. This is just another reason Crossroads will not deal with them anymore.
