Seam sealer

Has anyone used this product, or something similar to cover the dicor caulk around any roof protrusion, Antenna, roof vents, ac etc. It goes on thick and dries fairly quickly. Seems like a better way to seal since it would flow into the cracks and crevices.

I haven't used it, or even heard of it before.
Tell you the truth, I have been very satisfied with the dicor self leveling when ever I've had to use it. That seems to flow and fill to my satisfaction.
If you use it. let us know what you think.

This may or not help! Dicor also makes a one-part EPDM coating that I used on my last RV. It went on great for flat areas of the roof. When I tried to build up the coating a bit around vents and such after it dried it cracked quite a bit. As far as I know it never leaked (I sold the RV shortly thereafter) but I was surprised it cracked. Not sure if the two part is the same material or not.

I’ve not used it. I think ...great idea.

However per the instructions this stuff cures over a couple days. I’d think once you open the gallon can whatever you don’t use would dry out and go wasted.

Mark, I found a supplier that sells it in quarts. When I get back from my camping trip next week, I'll try it out.

But first I want to call the manufacturer and get their opinion.

Quart would be perfect. I’d bet dollars to donuts it’s lap sealant with additional solvent added.

what is wrong with flex seal

Since this was a post of roof sealants, I was wondering what it is about flex seal that no one seems to like it?

Here's a few reports from other forums
about Flex Seal

  • When we first saw it, DH bought some and it was great......but, after a few months, UV got the best of it. It only lasted about 6 months and then flaked off.
  • I used it on my S&B gutters. In just a few months it turned yellow and flaked off. I assume it was due to the UV. There is no way I would use it on my RV.
  • My question is why? If they make products for RV roofs, why would you use another product instead? It's not like this product fills a market gap. Plenty of RV roof sealants actually designed for the job. Sorry, I just don't see the point
But you have to decide for yourself.

Answer from Dicor

Just received a call from Dicor about using EDPM Rubber Roof Coating System on roof seams, vents and any roof protrusion.

They said it is a great product that can be used over all the seams on the roof of an rv. It will actually flow better in the cracks and crevices than the self leveling caulk.

Going to give it a try in the near future.

Mark, the can label says PART 2 ACRYLLIC COATING, do you have to mix it before you use it?

This is what ''part 1'' says; Dicor’s EPDM Roof Cleaner/Activator is Part 1 of a two-part coating system. The Cleaner/Activator cleans and prepares EPDM roofing for maximum adhesion of Dicor’s EPDM Roof Acrylic Coating. Simply spray on and rinse off thoroughly.

In addition, the 2-part coating system:

Extends the life of your EPDM rubber roof
Saves more than 25 percent in labor compared to competing products
Has a 1 quart to 125 square feet coverage rate
Dries quickly
Contains no harmful petroleum distillates, harsh abrasives or citric ingredients that can cause irreparable harm
This is what ''part 2'' says; Dicor EPDM Roof Acrylic Coating is the second part of a two-part, commercial grade system. It must follow the application of Dicor’s Rubber Roof Cleaner/Activator that ensures effective roof preparation and “lock and key” adhesion. Dicor’s EPDM Roof Acrylic Coating extends the life and beauty of your rubber roof membrane by forming an excellent protective barrier with its elastomeric (elasticity and flexibility) feature. The coating provides superior resistance to harsh weather and ultraviolet light and has great fire retardation characteristics.

Two coats are required.
But will be nice to also get some insight from those who used this product., just saying.
