I had my first shower in our trailer last weekend and was a bit dissapointed in the hot-cold-hot-cold temperature changes, after talking to a couple of different rv techs hubby says that they all say to remove the mixer valve on the top of the tank which evidently is why the temperature fluctuates, one of the rv techs said he has already removed at least a dozen of them because of complaints, says it is a bad design, has anyone else had any experience with this?

Is the water temperature fluctuating while the shower is running or are you getting a blast of cold water when you turn the valve on the shower head back on? I have not heard of the temp fluctuating while the water is running but the "cold blast" has been discussed on the forum. My understanding is that it is caused due to the low cracking pressure of the check valve at the hot water tank. When you shut the water off at the shower head it does not close off completely and allows a small amount of waterto leak through. The amount of flow is so low that it does not allow the check valve at the water heater to open so only cold water moves in the line. When you open the valve back up you get shot with all the cold water that has filled the hose between the tub valves and the end of the shower hose. Don't know if this is exactly what you are experiencing.

What "tank" are you referring to? The only "mixer valve" I know of is the faucet itself.

When my hubby took his first shower we had a faulty hose that sprayed all over when you tried to shut off the valve on the hand held shower wand so he had to just let the water run constantly and he said that he was getting constant temp blasts throughout the whole shower. After we replaced the hose with a new one I took my first shower and had the problem as Lonnie described with the initial blast of cold water every time I opened the valve to rinse myself off. The RV tech gave my hubby a diagram of what to do to solve the problem evidently it is quite simple and involves doing something (possibly removing) some valve from the top of the tank, whether it is a temperature sensing valve or what I am not sure but will let you know if it works.
