It looks like you've got both the male plug as well as the female connector & the extension cord. Clearly there was a high resistance connection in either cord end or between the 2 connectors & the whole thing went up in smoke.

Carefully check the cord from the burned male end all the way back. If the sheath is undamaged, then the cable is good & you can cut back the damage part & put on a new cord end.

Some seem to have the impression that a surge suppressor will prevent all manner of electrical ills. One thing I want to make clear is that one would have done nothing to prevent this from happening. The only thing a surge suppressor will do is protect from voltage spikes, and to some extent, line noise. There are sophisticated power conditioners that will also prevent brownouts as well, but they are $$$. A voltage spike did not do the damage here

In your picture there are two big cables one with a male end which comes from the trailer. That other cord with a yellow end which looks like it had a female plug on the end plugged into the trailer plug. Were these two plugs inside the cubby hole. If that yellow female plug was added someone might of not tightened screws tight enough or not enough strands around screws. And than when a heavy load put on the plugs, this would cause very high heat and yes cause a fire. And as a licensed electrician I have seen it many times with loose receptacles especially a Range or Dryer plug it causes a lot of damage.

It appears that the outside shower is directly above the power cord cubby, that may have leaked causing a short especially if that connection was inside the cubby.
