Does anyone know where I can buy a new spare tire crank? I had taken off the spare tire and so I cranked it up without the tire on it so it wouldn't bang around when driving, lesson learned with out weight on it the cable gets binded up in side. Took it off and tried to fix it but no luck...

Thanks for the help,

Brad, I am in the same boat. Mine got bound up when I was removing the spare before the installof my Eliminator Stabilizers. The spare was stuck to the rails and it was enough to put slack in the cable.

I checked with a couple of the local RV service places but they both said check with the manufacturer... I've been meaning to e-mail CR one of these mornings... I guess my spare will ride in the truckbed next week end....

to offer a word of advise when I got my PP one of the first things I did was to lower the spare and cover the cable with anti-seize grease, so far the few times I have had to use it, the cable looks good and there is no rust on the box, only makes sense that being under the camper with all the weather that iti is gong to rust, just thought you may want to try it...

Hey Patrick,

I haven't had time to mess with it till today, but good news is I was able to get it fixed. I drilled out the two revits and removed the black plastic cover and was able to undo the cable, then just put two bolts in to replace the revits. Seems to work fine now (hopefully).

I drilled two holes to install "eye" bolts to allow me to chain and lock my spare tire. I believe someone tried to take my spare tire on a trip and did not get away with it, but loosend up the tire enough for me to loose it going down the road. I feel much better with a chain and lock around it now. Just a suggestion while you have it off the trailer.

Thanks Brad, I'm thinking of giving it a try. We'll see how it works.

Howbad was your cable crimped? Minehas a pretty tight kink in it. Don't know if it will get jammed up later...

Patrick,

The cable was crimped but it was only a few inches from the top so hoping it's ok, no strans were broken. It wraps around about 4 times pretty tight so hopefully ok. I have always had a safety chain on it just in case.
