Springize - water heater leak

Springizing my trailer - after flushing the antifreeze from the hot water line and connecting to the hot water heater the fitting leaks. I've inspected it closely. There's no washer or O-ring, no teflon tape. The fitting screws all the way on, won't go any further and then leaks. What prevents these fittings from leaking? Am I missing something? see photo

I guess I'm a little confused. Did you unhook water lines to the water heater to flush them?
Anyway that's what I'm getting from your post.
If you did, that isn't necessary to do for flushing the lines.

The pex fittings in my trailer use this type of ferrule: https://www.rvupgradestore.com/Sanip...-p/88-9292.htm. The tapered pipe threads all have Teflon tape on them.

Yes, I unhooked the water lines and flushed them with antifreeze to keep the antifreeze out of the heater tank. After that was done I realized I didn't have to unhook them, there are two bypass valves that will allow the antifreeze to bypass the heater tank. But, I don't see what's supposed to keep the fitting from leaking. I'm guessing there's supposed to be a washer or grommet in the bottom of the fitting, because the fitting runs out of threads before it bottoms out.

Apparently it's supposed to have a seal something like this. Apparently it disappeared while towing the trailer to storage.

Thanks for looking and the reply. After some searching I came to a similar conclusion. I'll hunt all over town tomorrow and then end up ordering one online. Thanks again.

Lowe's or Home Depot both have pex fittings.
Also that fitting in the top of the water heater is, or should be, a check valve, be sure you reinstall it with the flow away/out of the water heater, if not you'll have a tank full of hot water & can't get any at any faucet.

Thanks for the heads up.
I found the original washers: Grandson was helping me and he removed both so they wouldn't fall out and get lost and put them in a drawer . He was watching out for me. They look just like this:

thanks to all

And remember that you doo not have to disconnect any pipes or fittings to winterize or summarize. Also the valves on the heater back are to be oriented in the same direction. If you have a 2 valve system then both valves are either both vertical or both horizontal. Never one vertical and the other horizontal. Good luck.

Late to the party, but I'm glad you got it fixed. An important note here, to pick up on what Oliver said above.......
NPT threads are tapered, and need teflon tape.
NPS threads are straight, and need a washer, or gasket.
The threads are the same pitch, ect, but cannot be used together.
