Storage Compartment Locks

I recently purchased a 2008 Seville. I love the coach, but I do have one concern. The locks on the storage compartments keep coming open while we are towing. I suspect the flexibility of the frames causes the locks to unseat and open the doors. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can fix this problem?

Tony, curiousity question. Are the latches locked when this occurs? Have had our PPSK36 on the road for 7 years and have had only one issue and that was when I actually forgot to latch one of the doors.

This compartments are locked when this happens. It seems like the latches are too short.

If you believe that the length of the lock arm is the issue, there are different lengths of the arms available from lock suppliers that can be switched out with just a phillips screwdriver.

Yes. We have the same problem. When unhitched there is
only a small gap beneath the compartment door and the locks work fine. When
hitched to the truck the opening is larger and the lock arm is not long enough
to catch the framework.

Our only recourse may be to:

</span></span></span></span>Pop rivet
a small piece of material to the compartment door frame for the arm to catch
upon.

</span></span></span>Loosen the screws along the bottom on the compartment
door frame and shim the bottom of the frame upward. </span>

You may have noticed that the silicon along the forward
trim of your RV is opening up. This is also due to the frame flexing.

I am going to check into replacing the lock arms right away. Thanks for your advice.

If you are going to modify the locks then you may wish to
consider replacing the entire cam lock with those high security baggage door
locks that use an alarm style barrel key. I think they come 4 to a bag and with
an assortment of lock arms at CW. </span>

(-) You will not be able to remove the key from the lock
until it is the locked position.

(+) Not everyone in the campground will have a key to
your compartments.

purchase a new door for your electrical access door and install a lock there. Thatflimsy</span>little latch on mine kept
falling apart.

The lock arms are your cheapeast route by far, unless to the point above, you take small "mending plates" and attach along the door stile with pop rivets or screws. I did thaton my propane door and it worked fine. Just takes some time to install.

Keep in mind your locks are probably "CH751's" which most rv mfg's install and aren't safe at all, as everyone else practically has the same locks and access to your stuff.

Camping World and many on line providers have the cylinder type locks available, giving you more protection.

Since usually only one of the two latches are locks, I would rather not put just one cylinder lock on as the theifs could unlatch the first one and rip off the door anyways. Buying two per door can get pricey fast.

I just don't keep valuable stuff in my storage areas just to be safe.
