Stove vent flap

During a recent wind storm, the flap fell out of our stove vent. This is the part you latch closed on the outside when you are on the road.

How important is it that we get this fixed? If we just left it off, would there be any issues with that?

Mostly insects.

I think it would be a good path for dust/dirt to enter when traveling.
If it were mine, I would want the flap there.

Use duck tape at the top to make a hinge for now, then you can get it fixed when you get home.

This happened on my trailer in the first year. Those two little plastic "hinges" are designed for ready failure, so I cut them off and glued on a hinge using vinyl strap material.

It's incredible to me how cheap this design was. Having a metal hinge (or bar, instead of those two needle thin plastic tabs) that would have inserted into the vent base would have cost all of 50 cents more.

The new flap is $10-12, but depending on if the tech was getting paid by the tube getting the caulking loose to replace may be the difficult part.

No, there's a hood over the opening. Maybe if you're moving while it's raining.

Black gorilla tape three years ago as a replacement hinge. Still going strong!

If it's missing, I'd replace it. Driving in the rain could force water up and in.

If you cannot replace it , just duct tape over the opening till you can. And put a piece of tape over the switch so you remember not to use it....

Thanks for all the input, everyone! We have the flap, I found it on the ground, so we will tape it on for now and have it repaired when we get home from Florida.
