You can put that tool in a drill, and insert it into the side of the gearbox and move your slide, unless the gearbox is bad. When you try to move it, if the motor runs, but you get no movement, you have blown out a gearbox. You'll have to replace it just to move it. I do not recommend that you disconnect any chains or cables unless the slide is at least 1/2 way in, or is blocked up from outside, or your slide will end up on the ground.
I blew a gearbox on my large slide, and it was because the darn thing is supposed to ride on a plastic rail.. yes, you read that right. The guide rail collapsed on the ends from the weight. I installed the available rollers, and now it works well, smooth and doesn't strain to move.
