Surge Protector - LOW voltage protection?

I have been reading about surge protectors in various places and find people talking about protection from a low voltage situation. Can someone explain to me how a surge protector can do anything about low voltage other than tell you that it's low? Do they just shut down your power....feed a huge battery/inverter setup....or what????

We use water pressure protector,water filters and electrical surge protectors-what is next??
I am not an electrician but I know that we all have electrical
breakers in our RV's and at home.
The breakers are there to protect the system from over loads .
Aren't we getting to "paranoid" and overdoing with all the protections we want to add??
I am RVing 8 years , never used a Surge Protector and all is OK till now.
Maybe I am missing something here.

Any more so many things are sensitive to anything non standard. We can thank cost controls and foriegn competition for this. Things used to be made to adjust to most abnormalities,now any hick up will do them in. Computers, Televisions, radios, dvd and cd players, ac units etc. can not take any surge or brown out. Years ago things were built to a standard greater than was required for just this reason, not any more. The minimum is all you get. Sad but true.

I have always used an Autoformer. Expensive, yes but if you think about what all you could loose from one power hit the cost is not that much. If we lost both AC units, fridge,1 or 2LCD TV's, laptopand a few other smaller items the cost to replace would be well beyond what the Autoformer cost. We have been at parks before and I have seen the AF kick in and boost low power. Edited by: Hunter11
