Thetford Aqua Magic Style II Toilet Spring

My Style II toilet was leaking and needed a couple of repair kits. Found the parts at the local RV shop and videos on YouTube on how to do it. No problem, ha!
Took the flush leaver off and noticed that one of the spring arms out of it's notch. When I tried to bull it back in the top end of the spring came off it's perch and now can't seem to get it back in.

I checked another website and their post was that they called Thetford for advise on getting it back on and they said it can't be done without a special tool and best to do was buy a new base.

Has anyone come across this problem and how did you get the spring back on?

Thanks for any input you can give.

Fixed my problem. I just went out and bought a new toilet. Took 5 minutes to install and is good to go. If the spring had not been disengaged and non repairable without the right took it would have been a 10 minute fix for $60. worth of parts. After Googling this brand I also found that you can buy just the lower portion of the toilet for approx. $150US which would make that a good option as well but can't find that locally here in Canada.

I have the same toilet.
I found the foot pedal to be broken where the spring sits.
It is not all that easy, but if you have the toilet dismounted, you can get the spring where it belongs.
