Tire pressure

We recently bought a new trailer. Label on the side says max pressure when cold is 65 psi. The dealer has them at 50 psi when I check. Should I add air or just leave them where the dealer put them? Not sure what the best pressure is to extend the life of the tires.

What make, model and year camper do you have?

If you would add that information to your signature it helps us to help you.

Label on the side of the camper or label on the tire?

I usually fill it up with water before heading out on a trip.

65psi (not under) is optimal.

Get yourself a tire gauge and a small compressor and check often. Always fill tires when cold.

65 psi is max pressure at max load. If you are under max load you can run the tire at a lower pressure. Example my truck same tires front and rear Front psi - 60 Rear psi- 72. If not pulling my camper i run them at the lower 60psi for better ride quality. If you are running max psi on a lightly loaded camper it will tend to bounce more as the tires are harder. The tires are part of the suspension and if the max load is not needed then max pressure is not needed.

It's a trailer and the PSI he's referring to is on the trailer (not the tires). One of the most common causes of blowouts is failure to run at the recommended tire pressure.

Do what you want.. I've been pulling trailers for 30 years and only ever had one blowout. First set of Goodyear's was this year. The rest were all "china bombs".

If that works for you keep doing it.

The main thing is to maintain the pressure and check them often for any problems.

The label on the trailer says MAX inflation pressure not recommended. Trailers are not like cars where if 35 is the recommended that is where you need to run them at. The MAX pressure is for MAX load If you have under max load you can run a lower pressure. Personally i run mine at 60 psi. I check them often and they do not run hot and the camper rides better.

You are lucky in 30 years only one blowout.

Back in the day - before radial or ST tires - you could loose the tread and the tire still not blow out. Yes i am that old.
