We just got back from a trip and when we were unloading the trailer I happen to notice the rear tire on the door side looked ballooned out on the tread area. It appears the belt was about to seperate and we were lucky to make it home. These tires do not even have 5k miles on them yet and of course these are the cheap Mission load range E tires that came on the trailer with a manufacture date of 4/06. I am having new BF Goodrich Commercial E tires installed and getting rid of the El Cheapo Mission tires. I always keep the tires at 80 psi as recommended by the tag on the trailer and check them often. I don't know about the rest of you but I would gladly pay an extra $100 to $300 for a trailer with a good set of tires on it from the factory and know it can't cost Crossroads anymore than that to equip trailers with good tires as opposed to the junk that comes on them. So keep a close eye on your tires at every stop. My wife asked me what would have happened if the tire had let loose at 65 mph and I told her it would not have been pretty. Thanks for letting me rant.......

If the tire had seperated you would have kissed your fender skirt, propane & wiring, underbelly cover and alum radius skirting good bye.
I noticed at CW that all the 2009 Keystones had big sticker's on them that said "NEW- EQUIPPED WITH NAME BRAND RADIAL TIRES"
It's pretty bad when safe tires are a selling point on a trailer!!

We had one go at 65 and noticed a bump then drove for about 25 more mileds before someone pointed it out to us. It tears up the skirt, and does a good job of that.

Keith , That would not be fun damaging the trailer so early in the season, Oh wait,,,, Do you have a season or is camping always in season down there ???
FGlad to hear you caught it, it can be fixed but would never be the same not to mention the danger of what could have happened.

Year round camping season down here.
I am going to try and take it in next Saturday and have the new tires installed. The wife needs new tires on here truck soon so maybe they will give me a better deal if I buy two sets from them. The good thing is BFG has a $70 rebate on a set of 4 tires right now so if we buy two sets we will get $140 back.

Keith,
It is good you noticed the bad tire before it went out. When I got my 05 it had the power king and going in next week for the bfg's. I hope the rebate is good here too .... 70 bucks is great. For Chris ... although in a blow out the pressure pro system would alert you I still think you would have some damage but much less than the 25 miles without it. I think it worth the $$$$ sometimes.

George, I am buying ours through Discount Tire and I don't know if the rebate is through them or BFG.

I've just ordered a Cruiser. Because of the history of bent/misaligned axles I had planned on running the standard equipment tires until I determine everything is OK or not, then buy some Maxxis tires.
I might be way better off switching the tires immediately after receiving the trailer!
Wonder if anyone has been reimbursed for tires that were damaged by defective axles, or defective installation of axles?
Unbelievable to pay what these trailers cost only to have to start replacing parts from day one!

Keith:
We took delivery of our 5er last Mar. Build date on the mission tires is 51/07. We have put over 5000 mi. on since then. Soooo, needless to say I was starting to feel pretty safe, and confident that the problem with the mission was over. I don't feel so good any more after reading about your experiences. Thanks for posting that. It's a good wake up call.
Tires on my truck don't have many miles on, but they are getting to be a few years old now, so maybe I can make a deal on new ones for all.

Just an update, we had the new tires installed this morning. When they removed the old Missions one of the other ones had cracking on the tread area. Wonder how long that one would have lasted...... I went from the 235/80/16 that came on the trailer to LT235/85/16 on the new BFG Commercials and they fit just fine. They are 1/2" larger than the old ones but there was plenty of room in the wheel well and between the tires. I think these are going to work out just fine. Keep an eye on those tires!
