To lube or not to lube...

Reading the Lippert slide info that came with the rig, itsays no lubrication needed as long as sildes are operated regularly. However looking underneath shows the slide out worm gear- travel gear is showing rust and no grease. All the stores and magazines sell a no grease lube spray to protect slide mechanisms. So I was wondering what doyou do? Im thinking about trying to clean off or brush off the rust then spraying it with silicone lube...sugestions?...

I use WD40 twice a year on the gears and slide parts and was told to do so by Crosssroads. Was told it keeps all the parts clean and lubed. I did it for 4 years on our Cruiser and have been doing it on the Paradise Pointe for over a year now.

+1 on the WD40. I spray mine about every 3rd time we run out the slide.

Another thing, No matter what you use just be careful that you do not spray it on the bottom of the slide out room. It will get on the carpet when you run it back in.

I spray on some slide lube from CW but it looks like WD40 a couple times of year.

Had our Kitchen slide seize on us it was so rusted from salt spray.Had to use penetrating oil to free it then was told by xroads to use slide spray. WD 40 was not recommended as it attracts dirt. Followed their directions & all is well(so far)

I use wd-40 works great, it's not stickey and dries in about 10 min. It will not harm the finish.

That is interesting because several of us on the forum have been told by people at the factory to use WD40. WD40 was recommended because it is lightweight and doesn't trap "grit" like grease will. I suppose it really doesn't matter what you use as long as it is light enough that it doesn't gunk up and you use it on a regular basis.

Ok thanks, I was convinced to use wd40 till I read the one post saying CrossRoads said NOT to. But then again the majority of you say you use wd40 because CrossRoads said TO use it...hmm...Wonder if slide spray is wd40 in disguise...But At least I know I should use Something instead of nothing like the Lippert material indicates...Thanks for the input...Isnt wd40 used in many applications where attracting dirt would be a problem? I like the stuff and will probably use it if I can convince the wife to just push the slide button while Im underneath spraying... Just spray where the two gears meet right?...That should keep the floor clean I think...Thanks again!

Wd=40 would dry clear unless you pick somthing up while it is wet. Just leave your slide out for an hour and you will be good to go..

I thought WD40 is technically a solvent, not a lubricant? Could it be that the reason it's recommended is to clean not lub the gears??

I frequent a lot of the gun forums and it's common knowledge to never use WD40 as a firearm oil/lubricant.

WD = "water displacement".
