Yea I bet that is a good one. I use the cheeper one. I know it works also because it pushes out the old grease and packs with new grease.

Finished!!!!!!

So, I adjusted the brakes today and got the 5er off the jack stands. Torqued the wheel nuts to 110 Lbs. Now ready for our next camping trip on the 24th. Heading to Grayson Highlands Park in Virginia for 5 days.

^^^^^ haha, I'm aware of that tip, I have plenty of those and luckily my local Harbor Freight had 7mil nitrile gloves in stock this week. I'm more worried about the heat, but at least I have covered storage and wont be in direct sunlight.

Yea I think I would work on it early or wait til sundown to start. What took so long for me is wiring the new brake assembly’s. Just making sure I had a good waterproof connection. The new brake assembly’s through Lippert were only $40.85 each. And brake pads are about $38.00 each. So I replaced the whole assembly’s. I tried using gloves but they get full of sweat and tear anyway; so I ditched them and just got nasty. Easier to work with bare hands and lots of towels. I repacked the bearings with a packer tool. I added extra grease by hand before I replaced the inner bearing and seal. I won’t ever use the easy bearing greaser on the end of the axel again. What a mess that was. Also, I don’t have near the heat index you do, but I had one of the rotary fans sitting on the floor pointing at me while I worked. That’s the ticket on staying cool.

Well, my struggles continue...took the day off to do the brakes and bearings, supposed to be cooler today, only 99.
Long story short, the axles are stamped 4400# but the brakes are 3500# so the brakes I special ordered won't fit (different bolt pattern) and I'll incur a 20% restocking fee ($100). Luckily, the 3500# brakes are in stock locally at nearly half the price.
Called Lippert, they couldn't even tell me what brakes Im supposed to have even though I have the serial numbers off the axles.
So now do I just go with the 3500# brakes or fight with Lippert and/or Crossroads for installing inferior brakes and axles on a trailer that has a GVWR of 9658#?
I really can't afford to upgrade to the 5200# axles right now, as that will also involve new wheels and tires.

Did you talk to lippert before ordering? If so I think I would call lippert and complain that they sent you the wrong brakes for your axel and see if they will eat the restocking charge. I would’ve bought my brake assembly’s locally but everyone around here wanted around $80.00 each. I tried to get a couple of the parts store to match the price but they said they couldn’t buy them for $40.85.

I did talk to Lippert before ordering, but not specifically about the brakes. They told me I had 4400# axles. So I researched 4400# brakes and bought locally. However, since the local guy doesn't normally carry these, they were a special order.
I'm not overly concerned about the restocking fee since the price of the 3500# breaks are half the cost. My concern now is, I have 3500# brakes and my GVWR is 9658#.

Did a little research on E trailer :

Dexter axle 3500# brake size 10 x 2 14" 2 7/8" square mounting bolt pattern.

Dexter axle 4400# brake size 10 x 2/14" Bolt pattern: 2 7/8" across top
3 1/4" across bottom
3" top to bottom

Both have a 4 bolt mounting flange.

With the GVWR of your camper minus the tongue weight is below the 8800# axle rating by about 600#. (9658 - 15% tongue weight - 1448.7 = 8209.3)
8800 axle rate - 8209.3 = 590.7. Close but within limits.
Ever at 10% tongue weight it is still 8692.2 still under the 8800# rating.

That said if the 4400# brakes you got do not fit your axle take measurements of your axle mounting flange and see what brakes it takes. You may indeed have 3500# axles.

Dagst1, after having time to sit and cool down, both physically and figuratively I agree with everything you said on the weights.
I aleeady knew about the bolt pattern differences, thats how I knew as soon as I pulled the 1st hub and saw the brakes were 3500#.
I've called my dealer and the axle manufacturer, Lippert. So far, I'. waiting for the dealer to call me back and Lippert to get a clue.
My bug concern now is are the 3500# brakes big enuf to stop 9600# in an emergency situation?
Im going ro go talk to the guys at Southwest Wheel, place I bought the brakes, they make goosen3ck trailers, to see if it would be possible to change the brake mounting flanges to the 4400# flange.
The saga continues... if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.
And just think...if I hadn't used the EZ Lube grease zerk and had grease get by the seal, I wouldn't have had to replace the brakes and would have misaed out on this headache.
Fun stuff!!

My question would be how did you get a 4400# axle with 3500# flanges?
The other thing is both axles take the same brakes. The only difference is the backing plate bolt pattern. Both are 10 x 2 1/4 so one would have the same stopping ability as the other.

On a side note i have 2 trailers - the Cruiser with brakes and a P J 14' utility trailer with no brakes. Both with the ez lube axles and have never had a seal leak. But i Hand pack each year when i de-winterize then use the ez lube to add a little grease thru the year. It is real easy to tell on the P J trailer because there are no brakes so i can see the seal.

Just do not want to turn this into a ez lube discussion. Kind of like what brand of truck is best. We all have our personal reasons as to brand loyalty. The main thing is to preform the maintenance and while you are in there check out everything.

Good luck!

Finally got everything installed.
Now trying to adjust them.
About how many clicks should I expect? Ive been at this for a few minutes on the same wheel and I have clicked at least 50 times and doesn't seem to be tightening up. The tire still spins freely.

Just for S&Gs I decided to spin the star wheel counter clockwise (contrary to every video I've watched) and wouldnt ya know it....it tightened. Now I'm wondering if there is something wrong.
These are Dexter Nev-R-Adust brakes, Right Hand (passenger side) PN K23-469-00 and Left Hand (dtiver side) PN K23-468-00
I know @Papa-T just did a brake install, did you have the same?

If I remember correctly, they will turn clock wise on one side and counter clock wise on the other to tighten.

Or in the reverse to loosen.

You are correct, however, everything I have read or watched said I should push down on the brake spoon.
But to get it to work, the left (driver's) side went clockwise by turning the wheel down by pushing the spoon up. The right (passenger's) side went counterclockwise by also pushing up on the spoon.

To adjust mine. I put the screwdriver on the star wheel and pressed down turning the wheel up. So, that would be turning up clockwise. This will help. https://youtu.be/waNWLWy7sDY
