Toilet Paper

Hopefully someone can answer this! What is the differance between RV toilet paper and household paper? RV paper is 1 plie you can buy 1 plie for home use it breaks down in septic tank.RV paper is higher price.

We use the same thing in the RV as we do the house, Northern TP. Anything septic safe will work. RV TP is a ripoff.

We use the same TP in the trailer as the house. My concern is not the type as much as the amount you used.

we use angel soft in the trailer. Any septic safe tp is fine for the trailer. just use plenty of water and not too much tp and you will be fine.

We use Scotts in the rv and at home. The extra soft, septic safe. seems ok.

Remember - your RV has a "Holding Tank" not a septic system. As stated - use a generous amount of water - and minimize the TP. One of the biggest problems faced is TP fouling the level sensors.......

lots of water and good flushing of tank with either a tank wand or a built in tank flush with every dump really helps prevent that problem.

I was always told to avoid the cotton type of paper.

carl I did not know paper was made of cotton? Thanks for all the response I will be using same in RV as home. I will also be trying the Geo method that soundslike it will keep tanks clean and odor free.

Don't know of any toilet paper made of cotton. Not even Cottonelle. Make from trees and recycled paper. Some is coated with an aloe, lotion or wax to make it smooth. In order to advance decomposition of the paper in septic tanks
or drainage, the paper used has shorter fibres than facial tissue or
writing paper. The manufacturer tries to reach an optimal balance
between rapid decomposition (which requires shorter fibres) and
sturdiness (which requires longer fibres).

I don't profess to be a TP expert, but I was told by a holding tank chemical manufacturer that cottonelle has cotton fibers which do not break down like wood fiber. Thus,it is more likely to cause clogs in the holding tank. That is the extent of my knowledge of this subject for whatever it is worth!

The cottonelle website says that Cottonelle clean care is made from 100% virgin wood fibers, and states that it is only 1ply which makes it safe for Rv's. Other sites says that there is no cotton in it.
Just want to let others know that it is safe for Rv's (Cottenelle Clean Care)

We have found the biggest difference is price. Just use a paper which states septic approved and you be OK if you use lots of water.

There are toilet papers made with cotton fiber (organic), they are special order and expensive so I doubt anyone who is RVing would choose them unless they had a specific need to do so. Last but not least it would not be a good choice for an rv waste system.

The job i have had for 35 years is to test TP. and no Cottonelle dose not have cotton in it. the best TP for the rv is Scott 1000.....

I have tested TP, Sears catalogs, telephone books, etc. for over 71 years and I still don't know what is in them. I do know what ends up on them!

I found that SCOTT 4-Pack Scott Rapid-Dissolving Toilet Paper - can be
purchased at Lowe's.

<h3>THE TEST</h3>

Fill an empty jar (a quart mayo jar works great) half full or so with water. Put in a sheet or two of your
toilet paper. Shake the jar rapidly for a few seconds. If the toilet paper falls apart it's RV holding tank
friendly.

<h3>ONE PLY OR TWO</h3>

Use whichever you prefer. I believe that the folks who prefer 1 ply over 2 probably use pieces that are twice as
long, ergo basically the same amount of paper. Can I prove it? No, but I believe it.

<h3>WHICH BRAND</h3>

Simply put, the brand of wood pulp, water glued toilet paper that people like and suits their budget and is
readily water soluble is the brand that they should use. I would also add that if people can abide it they should
consider using a brand with a high recycled material content. The only caveat is that the paper should, again, be
readily soluble.

What brand(s) would I recommend. Well, that's pretty subjective. If buying in bulk, i.e. by the case, I prefer
Scott/Kimberly-Clark 04460. It meets the requirements I've stated above, is a 2 ply, 500 sheet roll, and retails
for about 50 cents per roll. It's available at Costco.

Kimberly-Clark 'Surpass' toilet paper works well, too, and contains a lot of recycled material. That's good.

Another brand that we sometimes use is the Kirkland product from Costco. It, too, is 2 ply, 500 sheets per roll
and it also retails for about 45 cents per roll. It is not, however, quite as resilient (sturdy) IMO as the other
two.

Sam's Club sells Fort James (Fort Howard + James River) 132. It's a little better quality than the KC 04460 but
the rolls are smaller (400 sheets per roll) and the price is only just a bit less.

We have found that all of these products dissolve very well in water and in a holding tank environment.

<h3>RV toilet paper</h3>

I don't believe that a specialty branded RV or marine toilet paper is any better than many store brands, only
more expensive. Other folks disagree. I guess that's why there's so many different brands. Each to his/her own.

<h3>CLOGS</h3>

No matter which brand of toilet paper you use, most of the problems associated with toilet paper clogged dump
valves and level sensors in RVs can be eliminated if good dumping techniques are followed.
