Toppers for Slides

Toppers are supposed to be in. Considered installing myself with help from son. Salesman from dealership called to check on me n the Rushmore and mentioned a possible warrenty voidance issue inre the toppers not being installed by certified tech. Tossed and turned and am seriously thinking about letting the shop install. Drive wont be filled, with cars parked all over the street for couple days or more, and the worry and fret should pass. Any thoughts? Thanks for letting me vent.

We installed ours. Does your unit have the track already installed on the the RV? Ours was not, we had to intall them. That was probably the hardest part. I would do it myself again.

Call Randy at Crossroads and ask him if you will void any part of your warranty if you install the toppers yourself. I would not trust what a salesman tells you on something like this.

A certified tech? Please ask them to present the applicable paperwork that makes their employee "certified" in their eyes. Certified by who, a college, a 5 minute crash-course in using a screw driver????



I've had more half-assed work performed performed by dealer "techs" which is why I perform work myself.

I have a neighbor with a Forester, and he says the same thing.

I'm not going to argue the quality of the work performed by techs, but much like most states have for auto techs, there is a national RVIA/RVDA Technician Certification program and all dealerships that I know of will have some certified techs and should be displaying their certifications.

I understand, I know what y'all are saying, been there done that. However if something goes wrong I'll have somebody else to blame.

I have to agree with Mike. Most of this stuff isn't rocket science and if you are at all handy and have some common sense most mods and repairs are fairly simple and probably just as easy to do them yourself. As far as the warranty, I don't understand why a screw drilled into your rv by a service tech is any different than the one you install.I am sure installation instructions are included or at least available at the manufacturers website. Check with CrossRoads about the warranty, they will know.

my brother used to be an rv tech and he said no one in the shop was 'certified'. I agree with the other guys, its probably not rocket science. If you know which end of the screwdriver to hold, you should be ok... I can understand if there is an issue with the installation it may not be covered but if its defective, it doesn't change the situation if the tech installs it...

Keep us posted on the install, I am considering them too. IMO if you didn't get them from the factory, its too much money for the dealer to install, better off putting them on yourself.
