trailer brakes

Have had Sunset 250 for little over a yr, towed approx. 8000 miles. Never have been able to lock brakes. Gain is on 10 with electric control. Vehicle is
2016 Tundra. Dealer checked, 2 seals out, repacked bearings, adjusted
brakes. Still, brakes barely engage. Currently they are replacing brakes.
Anyone had similar problems?

Hook your trailer to a buddy's truck that pulls a trailer and see if the brakes look up with his . Then you will know if you Need brakes. Or not

The brake controller could be bad. Know some that couldn't use the trucks built in and had to buy a aftermarket one.

Brakes may need to be adjusted which is simple to do. If you don't know how you can go on YouTube and put in adjusting trailer brakes and you can see how simple it is. But also agree to try with someone else's truck to see.

I would try adjusting before replacing. Just because the dealer said they did it doesn't mean they did. When it comes to packing wheel bearings & the brakes I do it myself, I'm not taking anyone's word for it.

Very interesting read, and something I never considered doing until now, on our used new to us trailer. Perfect time to do it incase a person wants to take a little winter holiday. I think in my case I'll pull the drum and do a interior inspection, that way I'll know for sure. By looking at the tires it don't appear to have many miles and previous owner figured maybe 4000 miles he put on it. But when I'm done I'll know exactly whats towing behind me.
