Does anyone have any other checks before I buy new control board? Both electric and gas works but the continues to heat up and the relief valve activates. I have replaced thermostat and ECO plus relay same issues. I remember lights would come on the control board but have none now. Model is Atwood 6 gallon combo.
Mine does the same. Water out of the relief and the unit is still heating. Have not looked into it yet. Is there any heat sink compound or a bonding agent at the thermostat to tank connection?

Sometimes you just need to burp the water heater. Open a faucet on hot and let out the air and hot water. If my relief valve drips, this is what I do and it stops. Your problem may be completely different, but its something to try.

I would be interested to hear what the solution is to the problem.
The tanks are stamped and I bet the contact is not good between the two. In the hvac world I know they have a heat transfer paste used for thermostat connections in ac units.

What temp is the water? Mine doesn't have a thermostat so is factory controlled at 140. I know some Relief valves can go bad and cause a drip/leak. Mine used to leak and replaced the relief valve which cured the issue.

good point...
our last 5er had the on demand hot water system and air anywhere in the system would fool it and it would either cool or heat too much ...
Sorry for the delayed response I have been quite busy but the wife reminded we needed to go camping soon. I replaced the control board (off EBay) and the relief valve does not go off. I did not notice but there is a led on control board that lights up when the electric/propane is heating water and led is off when temp is reached. On the bad board the LED never came on. Hope this helps someone else.
