Water heater temp.

Does anyone know how to lower the water temperature on the water heater in a 2013 Z-1 291RL

Used it for Deer season for a week last week and it's scolding hot, nothing in the owners manual tells you how.

Thanks

That's an easy question....
Because it must cost .10 cents more, which is .10 cents more profit per RV.

The answer to your question as it was explained to me is supply and demand. You have 6 gallons of hot water. Some have a 10 gallon tank but 6 is the average. So using the shower as a example if the water is hotter you would use less flow and temper it with more cold water thus using less hot water. If the hot temperature is lower you turn the flow up and use hot water at a higher rate and run out of hot sooner.

As the tech that explained this to me said they change some to the lower adjustable temp thermostat only to have the camper return with the complaint that they run out of hot water too fast. He would tell the customer that with the lower temp and increased flow to run both the gas and electric if on full hookups to speed recovery time or turn the temp back up and decrease the flow.

As you say our water is very hot but we are used to tempering it so it is not a problem. Also we learned years age how to take a "camper shower".

Just something to consider before you change thermostats.

You can also open the bypass valve ,between the hot and cold pipe, a bit to allow a bit of cold water to mix with the hot as it exists the tank. Start with a slight opening and see where your sweet spot is. Free.

dagst1 is correct. They are designed that way, always have been. Easiest solution is to get used to it. Second best solution, I think, is opening the bypass a little, as Harley suggested.
