Sometimes when we fill our water tank, the water pump appears to be fast cycling as if there is an air lock in one of the pipes.

Anyone have any information on causes and especially ways to prevent.

I think its just the lines need to be vented. You have air in the line and the pump builds pressure by compressing the air and as soon as you open the line some where the pressure decreases and the pump starts. This happens until you get the air out and the line solid.Don't know how to prevent it.I'm not sure you ever get all the air out without filling up your holding tanks and refilling the fresh water again.

If you have a water filter inline after your pump, the resistance will cause it to quick cycle. You can set up a by pass for the water filter to use when you are not on city water, or add an accumulator (small holding tank) to reduce the cycling.

I've been trying everything to get rid of the air lock, but nothing works. We've had local water connected directly to the inlet and got a lot of air as usual, but the air lock must be close to the pump and not in the direct water inlet line. We're filling the tank now to see if that will help.

We don't use a filter. I've tried, but they are really useless. We've never had any contamination problem from one side of the country to the other from all types of sources.

It's always cleared itself before.

Thanks for trying to help.

Any other suggestions gladly tried!

You might check your anti-freeze inlet tube at the water pump. Could it be that the valve to the hose is not completely closed? Ifit isn't, you may be sucking small amounts of air through the hose. You could put the hose in a bucket of water to see if that changes your problem.
