Hey guys, another noob question here. What wax do you use for the outside of your 5er? Any special tips? I am nowhere near retired, so I think the front cap is all that will get done on a regular basis, but I will do the whole thing at least once a year. My camping season is about to start here, heading out in just over 2 weeks. Would like to wax the front cap before I go, in case I run into some bugs down south.

Like Cobra909, I use Meguiar's Flagship Premium. It goes on easy and wipes off just as well.

So do you really put some elbow grease in it, or just wipe on/wipe off? Do you let it dry slightly before removing?

lenny, I use a Porter-Cable #9424SP Random Orbital Polisher with Meguiar's foam pads and velcro backing plate. It takes me longer crawling up/down and repositioning the ladder than it does applying the polish. I always do the shaded side. Apply polish to the whole side, then come back a wipe off with microfiber towels. This gives plenty of time for polish to haze over.

Note: Do your rubber/vinyl first and the wax/polish won't stick as bad. Do this to my vehicles too.

Any good wax will work but more importantly..................GET AN ORBITAL BUFFER!!! This one simple device will save you time and sore shoulders.

Listen to Lynn and Scott. If you ever wax your trailer by hand once you will not do it again without a orbital buffer.

Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it. I will get that done later this week or the start of next. Really looking forward to hitting the road on the maiden voyage! Only a couple weeks to go!

I plan on doing all this in a wash bay at work. Plenty of room for a little truck like mine. So the weather won't be too much of a factor. But I am definitely ready for spring!

My better half went and picked some stuff up today, and came home with Meguiar's Dual Action Cleaner/Polish. The guy at the store recomended it, but warned to stay away from the graphics. Is this the stuff I want, or should I take it back? And how sensitive are the graphics?

I've used McQuire's Gold paste on everything I have with wheels. Easy on, easy off and long lasting. On my trailer, I was very careful around the graphics edges in case any had pulled away from the wall. Found only a couple instances of this and the wax deepened the color of the graphic. Looked great. Did it over two days...one end, one side each day and it was bearable. Can't wait to do it for this year but it'll be a while...12 inches new snow forecast for tonight. Winter's getting long!

This is the stuff she got... I read it, and it has me wondering if it is the right product or not?

I would NOT use any cleaner as it has abrasives....especially on the graphics. Get Meguiars Paste or liquid ONLY....NO cleaner/polish. Meguiars is awesome....used it on my 60 Vette for 25 years now. The paste goes on easily and should last longer than the liquid. I bought a buffer from Sears, really finishes those long sides of the trailer quickly.

lenny, I agree with ClassicHammond, you should NOT need a cleaner/polish. If you can't find the Marine/RV (Wallyworld should have it), then my next choice would be the NXT wax (it's what I use on our vehicles), next would be like coastn suggested, Meguiar's Gold (used to use this, but IMO, NXT is better/easier). Mother's also has some fine products(so I've heard), I just know what to expect with Meguiar's...and my SIL is a distributor.

How about a pic of the 60 vette?

I use (and swear by) some stuff called "liquid glass". It is kind of pricey, but goes on easy, wipes off easy, and looks and holds up great. It comes in a can with a picture of a mid-sixties 'vette on the label.

Just checked my last can of Maguire's Gold. May or may not be enough to make it through one more waxing of the trailer. When it's gone, it's NXT for me. Thanks for the tip, Cobra.
