Heyt everyone,

I had a hitch welded up to the back of the TT and was wondering ...

What brand/type bike rack do you use and why do you like that one?

Also does the manufacturer say not to useyours on the back of an RV?

I have researched a few racks and most say not for use on the back of an RV. What gives with that, why dont they want them on the back of an RV?

I was thinking of a Saris rack myself. I dont see whereSaris (on their website)says you cant put them on the back of an RV. They are pricey too but I wanted to ask all of you what you use, before I commit to a rack

Thanks in advance.Edited by: fixit5561

Brian,

Saris also states in the caution area of their on line instruction manual section: "not for use on any kind of trailer or recreation vehicle".

I do not understand why not, unless it is just the fact that you can not see the bikes if they come loose. The daughter was no longer using her SARIS.

It looks good on the back of the RV.

We installed a couple of extra bolts to remove most of the movement.

We will also bunge cord the works to the rear bumper supports.

Good Luck with yours.

We have a Yakima BigHorn4rack. We have the 1 1/4 receiver on the bumper of our 5er. We took 4 bikes from Ohio to Florida with it and had no problem. I did use ratcheting straps to help keep it from bouncing. I ran them from the arms of the bike rack to the bumper. I will admit I worried about it the entire time but it worked fine. I am in the process of fabricating a rack using Yakima roof rack bike mounts and attaching them to a framework that would then mount intotwo 2" receiver tubes welded to the frame. When (and if!)it is finished I will post pictures. I am only going this route because we carry 4 mountain bikes and it is a fair amount of weight and when we travel with them we are typically going quite a distance and I just want the piece of mind.

Oh! I forgot to mention, I am pretty certain Yakima says not to use the bike rack for rvs. I honestly think it is a "CYA" thing. Those racks can take quite a beating on the back of an rv and the manufacturer doesn't want to take that liability.

We use a Hollywood Sport Rider 4, but we only have set up for 2 bikes. We don't use any tie down straps, because Hollywood has wedge you tighten by hand to take out any bounce and movement, around the pin. They're not inexpensive, but it would be the last one you would ever buy. The Sport Rider 4 is pretty heavy, but they do have other ones. They are worth a look.

We opted for the Yakima bed heads and put the bikes in the bed of the truck. You need a full bed to do this for a 5er, otherwise you will have a meeting of bikes and cap.

Thanks for all your input you guys. I ended up going with the Saris juvenile 3 bike rack as the rack weighs around 30lbs and it will fit the daughters 20" bike wheels and when she gets older we can swap out the 20" spot for the full size.
