WiFi/internet

My 2020 sunset trail is prewired for Winegard, but this doesn’t offer unlimited WiFi. Any suggestions?

I tried satellite internet but the equipment was expensive and I found it a real pain to set up each time I moved. Not worth the effort for less than a week or two stay.

I mostly use my phone as a hotspot and cast Netflix from my phone to a chromecast on my tv. I have an ancient (and somewhat expensive) Verizon unlimited plan that is actually unlimited but you can check the various current "unlimited" deals from the carriers.

I have a MiFi from Verizon. I also have unlimited data. It does better than using my phone as a hotspot.

Did you have to add the winegard modem too? I have 2020 242Bh and I can't figure out how to get the 4g late to work

I have MiFi from Sprint/T-Mobil with unlimited data. Works good for us.

Thanks for the explanation...I wasn't sure if it was a type-o, a joke or more likely something I hadn't heard of...

How reliable is the MiFi in places where your phone has no service or 1 bar? We had that issue this weekend and the WiFi at the office was too far away to use. With virtual school and work, we want to be able to get out for more than just a weekend, so a reliable connection where our phones don't have service is a necessity. We have ATT & TMobie in our family of 4 and neither had good service in the Texas Hill Country!! Setting a phone on the window, in just the right position would give us 2 bars and not much speed for a hotspot.

We're not sure if a MiFi or some sort of antenna would be better. Any advice helps. TIA.

Julie

Julie, in my experience (Sprint/T-Mobil) no phone service no MiFi. I do have a Dish Tailgater Pro, if I needed dependable internet all the time for myself I would go with (kinda expensive) Dish Internet. That's just my situation. I am not an expert on any of this stuff. Hopefully others will chime in with what works best for them. My MiFi works very well anywhere we have phone service.

I feel that my Verizon MiFi would usually have a little stronger signal than my iPhone 6. I have not compared it to the signal of my new iPhone 11. Julie, as far as where no phone service is concerned, I have never been camping where I did not have a Verizon signal, even down in the valley between mountains in Hungary Mother State Park in southwest Virginia, so I can't advise you about that.

I think DavisK is on to something here, my son in-law always has phone service at campgrounds where we do not. He also has Verizon service.

We had the Verizon mifi jet pack for 10 years of fulltiming from coast to coast border to border with only a couple areas that we had little to no cell service, but the jet pack worked everywhere. If you're planning to also use this to stream movies it will be very costly but is possible.

Upstate NY here. Verizon cell customers. About 75% successful here but usually only 3G for campgrounds where we had reliable service. North Country and Southern Tier stink for connectivity. One in 10 campgrounds have no or barely accessible service you have to hunt for. Many have WiFi hotspots but only in camp store so you can check messages or Email. We're liking no connection because we're camping and don't want to be bothered. Buy a hotspot connection if you want continuous streaming - but be prepared to pay big dollars per Gig!

On my Verizon plan, I have unlimited data, but after 16GB they can slow the connection down, but there is no charge for the data.
