My wife and I are picking up a Zinger 19RD at the end of the month. Our second son starts college this fall so we are soon to be empty nesters. Age is putting an end to backpacking so we are going to start hauling a bed and quit sleeping on the ground. We are near Geneseo, NY and will be hitting the state parks this summer. I only have 6 weeks of vacation to burn!

We had been looking at various used trailers since last fall and hadn't really found anything worth buying. My truck is a V6 F150 so I needed to keep the weight down. It is rated for 4700 pounds.

We found the Zinger at the Rochester NY Dome RV show parked next to an almost identical Coleman. Thedifferences were that the Coleman had a two burner stove and no oven, it cost $1000 more, and it had a shorter warranty. A little negotiating and some back and forth and we signed the papers.

If I am correct Coleman is out of the RV business. If you Google Coleman Travel Trailers I am sure you will find the link.

You made a sound decision buying a Crossroads product.

The Coleman camping trailer business is closed in January and all employees have been laid off. Perhaps the travel trailer business continues.

I think what RV Daily Report was saying is the "camping" trailers are the smaller, popup type.

Don't toss out the backpack. We canoe in the Boundry Waters Canoe Area and head up with the trailer, portage in a few days come back out to a good steak waiting in the fridge, warm shower, and such a nice bed . Or we go backpacking some and back to the trailer.

Just the popups are out of bussiness which were made in Pa.

Word spread throughout the industry today (Jan. 20) that the manufacturer of the legendary Coleman folding camping trailer — FTCA Inc. — has shut down its plant in Somerset, Pa.

And while company spokesmen were unavailable for comment, it appears that those rumors are true – based on reports from several reliable sources.

We got an e-mail from our regional sales manager stating that they (company employees) were told yesterday at 3 o’clock that the company was no longer in business, confirms Andy Heck, president of Alpin Haus, a Coleman dealer in Amsterdam, N.Y., since the 1970s. “We assumed that an announcement would be made to a dealer body as a whole.

On the other hand, several other Coleman dealers contacted today said they had not been informed of the company’s closure.

Meanwhile, Heck predicts that the Coleman brand, built for a period of years prior to FTCA by Fleetwood Enterprises Inc., will reappear. FTCA was licensing the Coleman brand name from outdoor outfitter The Coleman Company Inc., Wichita, Kan.

I think someone will take it over, Heck said. It’s too good a brand for someone not to pick it up.

FTCA was formed in 2008 byBethesda, Md.-basedinvestment firm Blackstreet Capital Management LLC, which bought the Somerset plant from Fleetwood.

Coleman itself built popups in Somerset from 1967 to 1989 when Fleetwood purchased the company.

Fleetwood built Coleman popups until 2003 when Fleetwood and Coleman parted ways.
