Thank you for the welcoming! So being our first camper we thought we'd jump right in with a 38' camper. And to top if off, I've never pulled anything before. I didn't even own a truck until recently.

Welcome! We all had never towed anything at some point. Just remember to swing wide especially on right hand turns & watch for every one else, they think you should/could stop on a dime, wrong.

Again, thank you for all the hello's! Since I'm in Iowa we still have a few months before the camping season kicks off. As I've mentioned before I've never pulled anything let alone a big camper. My thoughts were as soon as the weather gets a little warmer to go find a big parking lot and practice backing up and turning corners.
My other concern is did I get the right size of truck. I purchased a Chevy Silverado 1500. The salesman was telling me that this truck will pull the camper with no problem. I hope it can.

Your salesmen is right ! A prius can pull a 35 foot trailer !!!
But it can't carry it on the rear axle
what's the tongue weight and gvw of your trailer after it's loaded up?
What's the hitch rating and rear gawr and gvwr of your truck ?

Ouch ...you did the bad thing ..and listened to the salesman..a big no no when towing is concerned. That is a big heavy trailer. You will be ok on flat land but you will not be impressed when you hit some hills and the tranny wants to stay in 3rd and rev...
One word of advice , do not put your dash display on 'fuel mileage'. you will be disappionted. Take it slow, speed limit. And make sure you are confident about setting up the brake unit .
I pulled mine with an avalanche and hills were terrible.

That should be written & posted in ALL rv dealerships "Don't ask our salesmen about tow vehicles, they DON'T KNOW" but they will tell you anything to make a sale, do your own homework.

You're talking a foreign language to me there! I wouldn't call myself real familiar with those things as probably why the truck saleman got me.

While we could look it up if we knew the exact year make model accessories on your truck and rv, you can too...
Your truck probably has it on the door jamb right behind the drivers door...
Look for GVWR and GAWR (rear)
Your Rv probably has GVWR posted somewhere too... as well as tongue weight (or we could use 20% of the GVWR as a guide)
While it's the dry weight (without any of YOUR stuff loaded in it)
it will give us an idea on how to help you...
good luck
according to this...
take 20% of 11154 to guess @ tongue weight of 2,000+ lbs ?
- Specification: DRY WEIGHT
- Details: 8073 LBS
- Specification: GVWR
- Details: 11154 LBS
- Specification: CARRYING CAPACITY
- Details: 3081 LBS
- Specification: HITCH WEIGHT
- Details: 994 LBS
Don't know the specs on your truck, cab config, year, etc... but one source says Towing capacity: 5,500 to 9,400 lbs
which is a concern at the outset
more details on your truck is needed...
