Glacier

Heading to Glacier National Park in July. Looking for suggestions for a great park? Would love some great views of the mountains, but that might be asking too much.

"Going to the Sun" highway will be open in June and will afford you some great views of the mountains. It takes you through the middle of the park and is steep and winding. I wouldn't suggest towing and there is a length limit. Make sure to stop at McDonald Lake and Lodge also stop at the summit, Logan Pass visitors center; there is a great hike up to Hidden Lake behind the center; other great hikes are Avalanche Lake and High-Line.
We always stay and enter from the west; we avoid the east side due to some BAD experiences in the past.

Dave covered it pretty well. If I remember right, there is a twenty some foot length restriction. With a little research, I think that could be verified one way or the other.
We have been there 2 or 3 times, and stayed on the west side also.

It's a wonderful place. In my opinion, the most rugged of our NP.
Take your time and enjoy it.

What a beautiful place. I would be curious to hear of Dave's "Bad Experiences". And by all means more pictures!

Beautiful! We are planning a trip to Alaska in 2016 and want to see this on the way. The length restrictions - would they apply to the length of a pick-up truck?

length restrictions

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed my photos.

Vehicles, and vehicle combinations, longer than 21 feet (including bumpers) or wider than 8 feet (including mirrors), are prohibited between Avalanche Campground and the Rising Sun picnic area parking.

Hopefully open by June 19th, 2015.

SEE: Going-to-the-Sun Road Information and Transit System - Glacier National Park (U.S. National Park Service)

Do not that the inside passage road unless you have plenty of time to complete your journey during daylight hours. (been there and done that)
In the dark there are places where you are on a steep climb looking at pine tree tops in your headlights and not knowing which way the road turns or if there is really is a road; and you will be very ALONE.

Hi! Not sure if you are still looking for park suggestions...but thought I would share a place we loved. We stayed at the West Glacier KOA in our rented 28ft Class C a few years ago. It was a beautiful campground in a great location that fit our needs really well for a family of 7. If you are looking for a really secluded minimal amenity park then the KOA will probably not be a good fit. We saw most everything Kamper Dave suggested so have to agree with everything he mentioned!
Best of luck on your trip!
