We just took delivery on a 2011 Crossroads Seville 35CK (our first fifth wheel). We will be towing this with a 2008 Chevy Silverado 6.6l diesel with the Allisons transmission. We got the dealer to add in a Pull-Rite Superglide 16K so that should work well.

We've had 3 tow types and this one is replacing a 26' Sunnybrook.

I've spent a good bit of time looking thru the fora and reading the replies. We're already talking about the Factory Rally next year. The Shipshewanna North campground is one of our favorites. We have yet to do a shakedown run with the camper but we have pulled it some since it was delivered by the guys at Camping World in Greenwood. They weren't able to get the hitch done so rather than us have to go back, they delivered it.

I've certainly been impressed with Crossroads quality and customer service. I've had the opportunity to talk to both Amy and Randy so far.

We're going to swap the bed for a queen so I've talked to Randy about how to do that as well as clarifying some electrical questions.

Welcome aboard! You will find some very helpful people providing useful information.

I looked at the weight of your new Seville and am wondering if you have a 2500HD or the 3500HD Silverado? The 3500 should be sufficient to pull your new 5ver. If you have a 2500 then youhave 3,000 pounds more RV then your truck can safely tow. Check out the pin and GVWR weights.

Hmmm. I have the 2500HD Crew Cab, 4wd. From what I read and talking to the truck guys, I am just about at the safe limit but not over (it could happen with fully loaded tanks in the 5iver. When the guys delivered it, noone told them to dump the fresh water tank so it was full (60 gal). Once that emptied it did feel a little different.

Overloading was one of my concerns for sure. I've had that with a previous camper (1998 GMC 1500 Stepside towing a 1999 26' Sunnybrook) so I do understand. That truck did ok on flat grond but any grade was a problem (going and stopping).

I do intend to take this over to the truck scales shortly and get axle weights to check.

According to Trailer Life's 2008 Tow Guide, your 2500 can tow a max of 13,500 lbs. The truck itself is rated at 9,200 lbs including the weight of the truck, full load of diesel, passengers, cargo, hitch and pin weight. Your scenario brings the weight to about 9,248. "Experts" will tell you to allow a 10% margin for safety, meaning 8,280 lbs.

As many on here will attest, salespeople are notorious for telling customers that their truck will safely tow the RV they are attempting to sell.

I have the 2007 Diesel Crew Cab 2500HD Max trailer is 14,200lbs and truck GVW is 9200. Gross combined weight max is 22,000. My truck with 2 adults and full fuel is 7738lbs. I wouldn't want to be pulling her in steep mountain ranges all day, but she tows just fine at about 10MPG.

Have a look at your trailer and the actual weight of the trailer will be on the door frame or in the cupboard above the counter top. Ours is ten thousand and change. If your truck is fully loaded and the trailer at it's max carrying capacity, sure you will be overweight, but you would be overweight as well with a 3500HD. You need duals to have a safety margin.

Make up a spreadsheet load her down and run the scales, then you know for sure and adjust accordingly. Unless something has dramatically changed in the truck industry there is at least a 10% overload factor built in, you just can't disclose it. Mind you it was many years ago when I worked summers on a truck/trailer assembly line

Art, it's been a while since we traded notes on tow capacity. My 2008 found a new home and I now am towing with a 2013 GMC 3500HD Crew Cab standard bed (6.6l diesel, Allison, 3.73) and it works so much better.

I hit the scales yesterday and came up with the following results.

Steer axle 4820lbs
Drive axle 6820lbs
Trailer axle 10100lbs

Gross wt 21740lbs

According to the 2013 GMC manual my max load is 24,500lbs with a max trailer weight of 17,000lbs. This is much better than the 2500HD weights.

We've towed maybe 2000 miles so far with the last trip being about 400 miles in Indiana. Fuel mileage was about 13.5 mpg running about 1700 - 1800rpm (65mph).

Needless to say, I'm pleased.

Congrats on the trailer and truck

I have a similar truck - similar weight at the scales in May of this year.

I added air bags (first item I added to the truck) and Bilstein shocks (shocks at 22,000 miles). Set the air bags between 45 and 50 lbs when hitched.

Great towing rig - look at my posting on our western trip. The tow haul mode and exhaust brakes worked great in the mountains out west. Great brake saver. I drive between 65-66 mph and have been averaging 11.2 mpg out west.

Welcome to the forum. We also have a Seville 35CK (2010). We love it. We pull it with a 2011 Dodge 3500 Diesel Dully Mega Cab. Nice when the wind really blows.
