new camper

new cruiser aire cr28rd owner here...and first post.
we upgraded from a 27' bumper pull to our first 5th wheel.
had it delivered to my house in december 15th, then had to swap trucks.
we've been out twice with the new setup and really like the new, larger space.
truck is a ram 2500 crew cab short bed diesel. i went with a pull-rite 2600 single point attachment hitch and am still playing with the hitch setup as i seem either too close the side rails, or too nose high.

looks like a great site with lots of info..

Hello and Welcome!

Congratulations on the new camper.

Just curious about your choice of hitches. How do you like it? I have a gooseneck ball in the bed but run a B&W Patriot 5th wheel hitch for the camper. I can connect and disconnect a lot faster with the camper then i can with the stock trailer. Also a lot less cranking - do not have to raise the camper to clear the ball.

Hitches have came a long way - my first hitch years ago bolted thru the bed over the wheel wells and had no side to side pivot.

Any questions just ask.

Happy camping!

hi, as this is the first one i've connected to.....i dunno.
i like that it's lightweight, i can remove by myself and it's really simple to hook up to.
initially thought that the +-6" of offset from where a traditional hitch sits would help with my short bed truck. but that offset basically makes the pin box longer and gets me too close to the bed side rails during turns. it also puts the trailer weight +-6" behind the axle, and i was feeling a fair amount of chucking. i now have the king pin adapter rotated around to where the kingpin sits directly over the gooseneck ball and seem to have plenty of truck to camper clearance and a lot less chucking.

i need to get closer to level, but the truck is new and bed is high..the camper lowered the bed less than an inch.
