New CTL28FB owner

We just picked up our CTL28FB last weekend. Love the floorplan, there is nothing else out there like it! We have the dark leather sofa, power jacks, and 15K air upgrades. It is a 2013 so we got the 2 year warranty. We also picked up a champion remote start generator since we will be boondocking alot.

After putting on about 1000 miles looking at campers and not being impressed at all with the quality of other more expensive campers, we opted for the 28FB. Bottom line the floorplan had us.

Time for LED upgrade.

Hi Michael. Welcome aboard, and congrats on the new camper.
I see you are located not to far from me.

We found ours at Country RV in Chippewa Falls, WI. Very decent people to work with so far, and I hear their service is excellent.

There are not many 28FB's left over the the US. Discontinued floor plan. I think there are a few at RV wholesalers and one at another dealer in central WI.

I just installed 3/4 ton style towing mirrors and a Tekonsha P3 on my Silverado. The towing mirrors are aftermarket Kool Vue w/ power and heat. Only bad thing with these is I lost the memory function in the power mirrors. A slight amount of shake with them too. Otherwise I like the increased view with them.

Are they a CR dealer now? We got ours from Dick's RV in Durand.

Yes, they have many CR units there. They knocked off a little more that 1/3 of list price. I had them install a Curt WD trunnion style hitch as well, very competitive @ $249.00, I think other dealers charge more?

I don't have any idea what the going price is for a hitch like that, but maybe some of the other members might

That surprises me to hear they are dealers for CR!
Do you happen to know if AL Siler works there as a sales person?

How did you manage to get a 2-year warranty? When I purchased mine (June 2013) I was told my RV came with only a 1-year warranty. That they used to have 2-year warranties...but stopped as of 2013 model year. Maybe this is just a "Screw Canada" thing...? (I live in Alberta, Canada)

Mine is a 2013,built in july 2012, so it has a 2 yr warranty. I think they changed the warranty later that model year. I know they changed alot of things on the reserve mid term..ie :front cap (2 different dk browns then light brown)

Goes by date of manufacture, if it was September '12 forward, only 1 year warranty

Too bad for me then. We purchased ours at our local RV Show (February '13) and then took possession of it June 01, 2013. I'd have to say it was manufactured AFTER September 2012. I believe my "Owner's package" even says 1-year warranty.

I'm facing some tough issues with warranty (well.. not warranty!!)
After our first road-trip, I complained to my dealer that one set of tires on my TT wasn't running straight (camber). He brushed it off by saying ", nope. I don't see it." So because he brushed it off, I had to as well.
Took my RV in for year-end warranty work (October 2013), dealer finally agreed with me that one set of tires had camber issue. Sent it off to the local axle shop. They fixed it. Never thought about it again, until 2 weeks ago. I happened to be down on my knee, by the slide, and noticed the one axle had quite the (upward) bend to it (must have been the one they fixed...I have no idea which was repaired...well...I do now!) So I snap some pictures and then called my Service guy. Again he says all is fine and normal. I asked him why one axle was almost completely straight (no bend) while the other had quite the upward bend. He replied (again).. everything is normal. So I Believe Him!!

Out at the RV this past weekend, loading up to go out for the May long weekend. Not sure what made me check, but I pop my head under the RV and have a look at the axles (this time from the back side.) My heart skipped a beat... maybe two..
The axle has 3 pinch marks along the bottom edge of the axle (not really edge, as axles are round! LOL). So the bend isn't even symmetrical. And to top that off, the brake wire coming out of the front hub is sheared away from the connector! So I am currently running on 3 brakes (not sure how long it's been like that!) Frig!!

A call to the service yielded little satisfaction. They want me to bring it back (again) so they can have a look. My RV was going to be parked (after this weekend) at a lake lot (1 1/2 hours away). Now I have pack things up again and haul the RV back to town. The axle shop is booking 1 1/2 weeks ahead.

Called Crossroads and they said they would probably have authorized that a new axle just be swapped in place as the camber should not be out from factory. He looks up my file and sees nothing for an axle request. The dealer did this fix all on their own and now Crossroads won't get involved.

Manager at the dealer says he'll make everything right! Even put in a new axle, if I want. I think I'd be stupid to consider anything but a new axle. And not a new Lippert one either. I think the local shop makes their own axles.

I don't really feel safe towing my RV in the state it's in. It looks like they bent the axle using a bottle-neck jack....

It has been said many times, A good dealer makes all the difference. I just called the one I am working with for some repairs, They said they are waiting on authorization. I call crossroads and no authorization request was received. called the dealer back and found out someone there droped the ball and it was not sent. Crossroads gets the blame too many times for bad dealers.
That being said I watched a video on how they fix axle alignment issues. I think it was posted on this forum, jacks and chains and bending the axle is the only way to get it in line, so the repair they did to your axle sounds like it may have been what was needed to fix the camber issue...

Well...when I called Crossroads Service, the fella I spoke to said a new axle should have been put in. When I asked him about Camber, he said the new axle has allowance for that. So... from factory, there should NEVER be an issue with Camber (well.. in the REAL world....)

It sounds like the dealer is going to have a new axle built for my RV and then get it installed for me no charge. It doesn't sound like he's ordering one in from Lippert.

I can understand if my trailer is one or more years old and needs a camber adjustment (though I don't hit curbs or pot-holes... but camber can be out as a result of flexing the axles on a tight turn, going forward and/or reverse. Especially hard on the axle if you back in to a tight spot and have flexed the axle and then don't straighten out).. I get that, but mine was brand new and I complained about a camber issue. Crossroads said they shouldn't have a camber issue at new.

Why a new axle wasn't just put in in the first place. Would have made my life a heck of a-lot less stressful.

How would you feel if you saw some pressure pinches in your axle? Sure, that might be the way they fix the issue, doesn't mean I should have to accept it! Not yet, anyway.

Cheers!

I don't disagree with you. a new axle would have been the best way to go. Your dealer should have submitted the warranty claim.
That was the point I was trying to make...
I would be upset too

Sorry... I wasn't trying to say you were disagreeing with me. LOL.
I wish the dealer had made the claim in 2013... maybe I wouldn't be dealing with an axle issue.

For the life of me I cannot figure out why they didn't just attempt the claim.

It's based on build date - Canada and US have same warranty. 2013 models were the split year from 2 year warranty to 1 year warranty. Our 2013 has the 2 year warranty. If the unit was manufactured before August or September of 2012 (need to confirm the date) it is still under the two year warranty. CrossRoads can confirm this. We were unsure when we bought our 2013 in October of 2012 but we called and confirmed with CrossRoads themselves and we have a 2 year warranty on ours.

Thanks. I don't have my RV close by to check. I have an email in to Crossroads to see if they can tell me what the build date of my RV is. I'm pretty sure I only have a 1-year warranty on the unit. That's what my selling dealer told me anyway.

I have the CTL28FB model; not sure why they discontinued this design.

I think the build date is posted either inside the camper on their sheet in the cupboard, or it's outside o the left side with the other info.

Lloyd - Thanks for the info. I'll be taking my RV out this weekend, I'll have a look then (if Crossroads hasn't replied by then.)

I'm optimistic yet pessimistic at the same time!
