New Member and Midwest Campsite advice

Hi Everyone,

After years of looking and dreaming, we finally pulled the trigger on buying a travel trailer. We went with a 2013 Sunset Trail 290QB. We have four daughters, so the quad bunkhouse was a huge plus. Our tow vehicle is a Nissan NV3500 van.

Last year we rented a Zinger with bunk beds that was a little smaller but actually weighed more. We really enjoyed test run to Western Michigan. I'm excited for some longer trips this summer around the midwest and southeast.

If anyone has recommendations for campgrounds within a few hours of Chicago that are open April 1st, let me know. We are hoping to do a quick weekend trip but are finding that a lot of Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin campgrounds don't open until April 15th or later.

Thanks,

Hello And Welcome.

Not to sure about Illinois but some Missouri state parks are open year round but you can not reserve a site until mid April but you can still camp on a first come first served basis. Also you may try COE parks - Corps Of Engineers. Some are also open year round just have to check.

Enjoy your new to you camper.

If a state park works for you with electric only, Ottawa Lake in Southern Unit of Kettle Moraine in Eagle, WI is very nice. There are lots of sites available. https://wisconsin.goingtocamp.com/cr...Id=-2147483620

Also in southeast Wisconsin is Richard Bong State Park . They frequently have available sites.
