We have been Travel Trailer campers for many years but now that we have retired, we wanted something with more space and comfort than our current trailer. I have been looking at a 2012 Sunset Trail Reserve ST30RE. Looks to be in very nice shape, not towed or camped very much. Does anyone know of problems with that year and model trailer that I should know about and look for before I purchase?

Crossroads had lots of problems with the Schwintek slide out mechanisms and that is probably what the ST has. Bedroom slides are not as problematic as on the main slides. Other brands seemed to have better results with the Schwintek than CR. Newer units now use the BAL Accu-slide system. Don't have experience with either, so hopefully some 2012 owners will have better info for you.

I have a 2013 ST Reserve 30RE. It has the Schwinteck slide and thus far have had no problems with it. I do make sure the camper is level side to side and front to back before I extend it. The large couch/dinette slide is very heavy and I don't want to overtax the 2 little motors that move it in and out. The newer models have a cable system. If I had the option I would go with the cable system even though I'm sure there are/will be problems with them as well. The biggest downfall with the Schwinteck is that there is no way to manually extend or retract the slide if the motor(s) fail (short of getting 3 or 4 strong fellas to manually push it in). But again, I don't know what happens if a cable breaks or the motors quit on the cable system. I just keep my fingers crossed!
