New Member in Central Florida

Hi Everyone,

I'm a new member in Central Florida, and a proud owner (so far) of a 2017 Zinger 291RL.

Aside from a couple of little issues that really should have been picked up by the Crossroads QA department, and are to be addressed by our local CW under warranty, everything is peachy.

I haul the new beastie with a 2015 Toyota Tundra. I'd be very interested to hear from anyone else who runs a similar rig to find out what their fuel consumption is as mine is abysmal.

Here's hoping I hear from some of you in the near future.

Best regards, and I look forward to seeing some of you on my travels.

JR

Just to let you know that there is NO quality control in the factory...build them and out the door they go. Hope the dealer helps . but in most of our opinions, they are so slow at getting anything done ,you may have to do alot of the work yourself. sorry.....Hope the problems are just minimal.

Hi Harley,

Thanks for your quick reply. The deficiencies are non too drastic, and fortunately I'm a bit of a DIY'er so can tackle most stuff to make it right. That doesn't alter the fact that when you buy something brand new you kind of expect it to be built to a reasonable standard.

Can you imagine if your new TV only picked up half the channels you subscribed too, or your fridge wouldn't keep the beers quite cold enough?

I don't understand how they get away with it, you know the Auto makers wouldn't......

I was a quality tech at one of the big 3 and cannot imagine the crap trailer builders get away with either .
When I found stuff wrong with mine , I would take pictures and send them to the dealer and to a few people at crossroads, even got some responses from the company . Why not ,I was fixing their mistakes for free...good luck with yours.

We are also in Central Florida, for the winter. We are Canadian snowbirds.

About your fuel consumption. Just what are the numbers? If you are close to your towing limit then that could adversely affect your fuel consumption.

As to RV quality, here is an interesting article regarding that. I will probably be starting a separate thread about this soon.

Hi Loneoak,

I look forward to seeing your thread on RV quality. I'm about to read the compilation you attached earlier, thanks for that.

Safe travels.

I tow my Sunset Trail 270bh with a Tundra. On my first trip with the new trailer I kept the MPG computer on and it showed 7 to 8 MPG most of the time.

Now, I keep it turned off and listen to some music trying not to think about it. You will need to be thinking about where you will be gassing up-it was shocking how quickly the last quarter tank goes when towing vs. not towing.

I love the Tundra but gas mileage is not a strength.

Hi Kingfish,

Thanks for your reply, I can confirm I'm getting identical mileage to you pulling our 2017 Zinger 291RL.

I was beginning to panic that I had the only Tundra exhibiting such atrocious fuel returns.

I have literally just returned from our Toyota dealership having had the 25k scheduled maintenance carried out. The truck passed every diagnostic they could throw at it, and by chance I struck up a conversation with a tech who pulls a similar rig with his much older Tundra and he gets identical mileage to us.

I'm happy with the 16 -17 mpg around town without the trailer, and since everything else about the vehicle is exemplary, I'm prepared to put up with the horrid towing consumption.

Drive safe.

We regularly get between 10 and 12 mpg (U.S. gallons) while towing. We get 13 - 17 mpg when not towing and city driving. We actually got over 19 mpg when we drove to south-east Ohio (not towing) and it was almost all highway driving.
