The new Ram with the new ST270BH

Well, it wasn't how I planned it to happen, and she still isn't perfect (have an outdoor kitchen counter top flaw that will require replacing) but I forced our dealership to deliver it and dewinterize at their expense since I'm a little inconvenienced. But looking past that, it's finally here. A long couple of months waiting and it got delivered in the snow yesterday. First camping trip scheduled for this weekend. Here we go....

BTW, yes the Ram is squatting a bit in the rear b/c I didn't have the WD hitch attached. I was just moving it back a little in the drive. It does not squat that much with the hitch work hooked up.

We adjusted our chains from three links to four links hanging down, increased our gas mileage and the truck rides a bit rougher but seems to handle well. We have kayaks and bikes in our truck and two passengers. Kayaks weigh about 100 pounds. Bikes are fold up about 60 pounds. Even with the kayaks on top we get about 13 mpg.

Congrats MOH ! now rush to get everything in there so you can check it out this weekend (maybe stay in it tonight to test everything!)
Bring paper and pencil and your video camera to record the momentous events !

kc, the kayaks may HELP cut through the wind and keep it off the rv's front

It's been a mad scramble to get all the goods in place but I think we are 95% there now. Everything seems to be in good working order so far. Thank you for the comment.

Molding on it not fitted well at all and lots of excess adhesive on top surface. Dealer got a replacement and attempted to install it but the new one was 1/4" too short. So the old one is back on for now, its operational but not pretty. New one coming and will need to find time to get the unit there.

Guess I'm wondering, don't they contract out these counters and wouldn't they all be cut using CAD programs? Should all be the same one would think.

Congrats on getting it!
I'm waiting on picking the same unit up for another two weeks from my dealer because the temps are still in the low 30s here at night sometimes.
Isn't there a concern of having it de-winterized and sitting outside on your driveway in the cold?
Mike

Mike
There was 2 nights ago, down to 20 degrees. Gave me an excellent reason to test the furnace in length, it works
Last night only got down to 35 so was good there. Yeah, next year probably won't de-winterize until late April but with our schedule so hectic and wanting to take it out 3 times before our trip to the Black Hills, SD it had to be done now. Plus I got the dealership to do it for me b/c of the little bit of hassle this outdoor kitchen is causing me. Going to take it out for an hour tonight to practice maneuvering again and get the brake controller dialed in better. Plus, will get to find out if all the stuff we put in it shifts too much. Will try to get a better pic with the Equalizer in action.

Good luck with getting yours Mike. I'll tell you right now this thing seems a lot bigger sittin in the drive and hitched up than it does sittin on the dealers lot next to a Class A or big 5ver. But what a wonderful feeling to put this part of the journey behind us.

Hey, shout out to the owner of a Sunset Trail Reserve 5ver just west of Lexington, Ohio. Saw this beauty out in front of a house today opened up gettin a tan in the sun If that person is on this forum, hello neighbor and you have a real nice looking set up.

Trust me...you will forget something. Or you will wish later you would have thought to bring something else. Probably a good idea to put a list on the fridge for the stuff you wish you would have thought of!

Congrats on the new unit. Did anyone explain how to "break-in the brakes?" If not and you haven't gone out yet you should probably think of doing it. Good luck on your first trip...enjoy yourself.

Travel well,
Jim

Could you elaborate on this?

x2, please elaborate. Went out with it yesterday and found my comfort zone with the brake controller. Nobody ever said anything about breaking them in except that they would be a bit sensitive at first, then feel more consistent at time goes on.

Very nice looking trailer and truck! This reminds me of my first trip with my new 93 Terry resort trailer it was when the leaves were playing Los Angeles and I guess if you follow the NHL you know what happened so it was kind of bittersweet trip but I'm sure you'll have a good time.

I'm interested to hear more about the "brake break in" as well. No one mentioned it to us.

No certified mechanic here, but I've done my fair share of brake jobs..only time I've ever had to do break in anything is on disc brakes with ceramic pads. It's referred to as "Bedding the pads".

Your trailer has drum brakes, so not sure if any break in period is required.
