Camping in Canada

My wife and I are thinking of visiting Niagara Fall next year and staying on the Canadian side. Can anyone give advice on crossing the boarder? Do's and don'ts? What food is allowed? We normally like to make our own instead of eating out.

Crossing the border was always tricky. Currently the border is closed for non essential travel with some few exceptions.

You now must possess a passport or Real ID license for anyone crossing. Absolutely no firearms. We are planning a Rochester NY trip through Michigan and cannot make the Canada shortcut currently.

Best advice as of now, stay in NY or plan another trip.

We are hoping by next summer things are opened up that it will not be a problem.

Hopefully travels restrictions as we know it will be gone. Usually some meat, vegetables and fruit have restrictions that can change and this goes for returning to the USA. Check website link beforehand.

I used to race cars professionally and we'd race in Canada fairly often. They are very strict about criminal history and they won't let you in with any history. I'm sure you aren't a criminal but more than once we had to leave a crew member at the border who had a DWI 20 years ago and didn't think it would come up.

You will likely find that your US dollars will buy food up here much cheaper. Bring basics like condiments and buy the rest up here. When we go south into Montana the price for food is basically the same amount just in US dollars so it costs more for us.

I think this coronavirus pandemic will change many things including border laws and travel. Right now, broader is closed, and it would be closed for non-essential travelling till 21 July. We are not sure either government will lift the ban or open it after 21 July.
