First camping trip of the year!

Leaving tomorrow morning to spend a week at Ochlockonee River State Park in the panhandle of Florida. Weather promises to be acceptable, with mild days and a couple of chilly nights, maybe down around freezing. Nothing we can't deal with though. We'll do some biking and hiking, and spend at least one day at St. Marks Wildlife Refuge checking out the wintering birds. Another day we will go on the river tour at Wakulla Springs. Good time a'coming. This will be the third year in a row of going down there, but the first that we have been able to spend an entire week. Too bad I will probably have to winterize the trailer again when we get home next weekend.

First Camping trip of the year

Live in Tallahassee area & weather should be great next week or so. Local forecast is a low of around 30-35 with highs in mid 50's-high 60's.
In addition to all of the things you mentioned there is great seafood in the area.

Enjoy an area of Fl that most people never see. Have a safe trip.

We really like it down there. We might eat at Angelo's in Panacea, and will definitely eat at Spring Creek Restaurant for the mullet. Yum. We'll probably do that on the way back from St. Mark's National Wildlife Refuge. Should be pulling out of here in about an hour and a half.

We are so jealous here in mid VA with our yo-yo weather with highs in the 60s or 30s next week. Crazy weather and everyone is sick with a cold or the flu.

For this little state park (30 campsites), I think sites 6-8 are good. We always try to get site 6, but in April I have site 7 which looks like it will be OK too. Right not there is a HUGE RV in 7. Go to reserveamerica.com to make the reservation. It also has comments about how large the site is.

Thanks for the information, we are in the Crystal River Florida area and that would be a great first stop on the way to camping in the Panhandle.

1st camping trip of the year

kstanding, Fernandina has always been a favorite(originally from JaxFl) but have never camped at Ft Clinch(visited Fort but never camped). Give us a update on condition, etc. Have been thinking of heading that way.

Thanks

The bathrooms are heated and clean. The beach access from the beach campground has the boardwalk being repaired but they were very nice in Oct and let up walk around the area they were working on, we will see next week if we can still use it. Otherwise no big deal you drive to the beach and pier area just down the street. I would suggest using the Beach campground, all sites are good 11,12 and 13 you can see the ocean from. Deer are in the dunes all around the campground. We are in 19 this time, but we were just lucky to get a site. The river campground can be tricky to get into some of the sites. I did write down a few that I felt were doable with a larger rig, if you need the numbers I can look them up for you. We loved we were so close to the town and the greenway across the street was great for biking. We visited all the parks, did Kingsley Plantation and the boat ride in Ferdinanda to see cumberland island. We did the ranger led hike on Saturday 10:30 and liked that. Great park.

Thanks kcandsting, sounds great. Will probably make the run in march or april. Is the Ft George golf course still ope n? It used to be a good layout. As you probably know across the river from Kingsley is some of the best seafood but same can be said of Fernandina.
Thanks again & have a good time

We are not golfers, but did drive by a huge golf course. Enjoy your trip. Will let you know how they are doing on the walkway when we get back.
