Help - Tampa, FL to Birmingham, AL - Sightseeing... What to do?

Need recommendations, please...

My wife, 2 daughters (ages 16 & 12) and I are traveling (truck & 5th wheel) this week from Tampa to Birmingham.

We have some time to do a little sightseeing along the way (to or from).

We are always going to the beach, so something different would be good. Thinking something in Georgia, Alabama or mid-southern Tennessee (Chattanooga).

Any recommendations on something fun the family would enjoy seeing or doing?

Thought about Atlanta/Stone Mountain/Aquarium, Calaway Gardens, Lookout Mountain, any other thoughts???

Thanks, Tom & Jen

Hey Mako,

Welcome to the forum.

Depending on whether you plan on heading North from Tampa via the I-75 or I-95 there's a ton of stuff to see.

Up the western route, just north of Williston is a place called Cedar Lakes Woods and Gardens. It's basically a retired dentist's backyard open to the public. 100 yrs ago it was l lime rock quarry, but he's landscaped it with terraces, indigenous plantings, and water features, you can kill a couple or three hours there exploring it easily, and it's well worth the entry fee. I had no trouble navigating the dirt road that leads into the place, and there' ample parking and space to make a 'U' turn in even the largest of 5'ers.

The other side of course has St. Augustine, a fine Campingworld and Gander Outlet on the outskirts, and a couple hours further North is Savannah with all that historic place has to offer.

I hope this gives you some ideas.

Enjoy your journey.

I hope this

Welcome to the forum. If you are a fan of any type of automobile racing, you could venture up to Talladega, AL, and visit the International Racing Hall of Fame.

Also, of course there's the Barber Motorsports Museum actually in Birmingham.

A lot of museums are closing due to the Corona virus. So a call ahead of time will save you a trip. It's not the best of times for vacations to view museums or any of the like. Hopefully, this will end in the not to distant future.

Not a wise move traveling anywhere at the moment. You are endangering yourself and everyone around you.
