Jasper

Need a recommendation for the Jasper National Park area in Canada.
Would like to know of anyplace outside the park that is a good place to set up our "base camp" for day trips to the Park.
Or, should we try to get into the Park itself?

thanks all.

If you can get a reservation in the park, it is best. We are booked into the full service campground right next to the townsite in August for 3 nights on our way back from Alaska. Stayed there before and very nice. It's called Whistlers Campground and must be booked through the National Parks Reservation service. Books up quick so you are probably looking at only weekday availability at this point. I believe everything else in the area does not allow reservations - first come, first serve.

If you don't want to reserve , be there before 11 am , and should be ok . I was.You may not get full services all the time , but for 1 or 2 nights was not required. there is also overflow areas that are at various locations. I stayed at lake louise for a few days , atabaska glacier area for 1 day and jasper area for a few days. Its a long park.
don't miss the spiral tunnel for trains between lake louise and golden ,bc. There is a campground near there that has great views.
