Myrtle Beach June/July

We are thinking of travelling down to Myrtle Beach in June or July to visit a friend. I see there are a couple larger campgrounds. Anyone have any experience with them there? Any better than the others? Thanks for any help....

We stayed at pirateland in 2011 and really liked it although I don't recommend the inland sites. Ocean lakes is also very popular. Both of these will have a lot of golf cart traffic and a lot of activities. Myrtle beach state park is also popular but a little more isolated. It really depends on what you are looking for.

Been staying at Lakewood for the past 10 years. Great sites near ocean, and went thru many updates lately.

I loved Ocean Lakes when I stayed there. It was in May before school let out, but it was still almost full.

We've done Myrtle Beach Travel Park a couple times. Their are spots on the lake side that give you the best of both worlds. We love the private access beach. Can let the dog in ocean in the afternoon. very cool. Northern North Myrtle seems less congested and busy.

MBTP, Ocean Lakes, and PirateLand are the biggies. Most of the sites are cramped, ask around for larger sites or look at the maps online. Google can give you an idea.

These are very busy campgrounds. MBTP last we went didnt permit golf carts. That was the deciding factor. Friends stay at Ocean Lakes and PL and kids are running around late at night in the carts. Never personally experienced this but thats what I've been told.

We love Huntington Beach State Park. It is just south of Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet. Clean and quiet. Campground has 2 beach accesses that are away from the public beach access. Large camp sites. We camp there year round. Just went this weekend. Only a few sites have sewer hook ups.

Ocean Lakes is too big and crowded for us.

We live in middle SC. Last year we stayed at MB State Park. I liked it, but wife thought it was too tight and close-together. As we left town, we checked out the local KOA. We both like it, and will stay there next time. About 1/2 mile inland, but has regular shuttle busses to/from the beach. BTW, SC state parks are pretty hard-over about alcohol. If you drink, stay inside with your curtains drawn!

We stayed at Apache Campground. It was nice and quite. Enjoyed the pier. Not the most up to date but we enjoyed it enough to go back this July.
