I posted this on another part of the site, then saw the campground recommendations part....
Sorry to re-post but hopefully I get a reply....

<div ="msg">
Please give me suggestions for camp sites outside of Rocky Mt. National Park? Perhaps in the Estes Park area.
We are coming from the West (Minnesota), Wife, Myself and two sons 7 and 11.
We are looking to set up a "base camp" that we can then run around the area to see the sites.
Let me know.
Thanks!

Do not have a good recommendation for you. If your are considering the Estes Park KOA check reviews. Not a good stay for your boys if you plan time in the camp. You probably know this (http://www.campgroundreviews.com/) great source for campground search. Have great trip!
Go Well

We stayed in a forest service cg just outside of Estes Park. Maybe a 15 minute drive from Estes? Can't remember the name right now but nice little cg. No frills (like all forest service cgs) but great location and cheap. Check forest service website and you will find cgs in that area.

We have stayed at Bluewater Key RV Resort. It is at MM14 so it is close to Key West and not very far from Bahia Honda State Park. There are 2 websites for the same park because 2 different groups handle rentals. It is probably my families favorite cg. The links arehttp://www.bluewaterkey.net/andhttp://www.bluewaterkey.com/. We have also stayed at Curry Hammock State Park and Long Key State Park in the Keys. They are further North. If you have any questions just PM me. We have been to the keys quite a few times and love it! (I need to update my map! I haven't done that in a couple of years and we now have the lower 48 all filled in!)

I looked back through my photos and found the CG we stayed at in the rockies. It is called Olive Ridge and it is a National Forest Service CG. There are no hook ups but there is water available in the cg. You can run a generator which we did a couple of times just to charge phones, computer, camera.
