Thinking about visiting these two wonderful locations. It'll be just Joyce and me & we like space and quiet for a base camp. Suggestions please? Thanks in advance.

Don't know about Charleston.
In ther Savannah area, we stayed on Tybee Island at River's End Campground in Feb. 2011.
Approx. 1/2 hour from Downtown.
It was quiet at that time of year.

Tybee island is very nice for Savannah . we stayed at Skidaway State park in Ga. vey close to town . nice park . full hookups including cable . quiet also . we stayed there on our trip . it is a bit more economical than Tybee . that is your call . google Skidaway . you can see campground map .all pull throughs also

for Charleston , we stayed at a nice KOA east of Charleston . one tip , if you decide on this , get on the Interstate and get off the exit so you can approach the campgroundfrom the Westand enter without trying to buck traffic by making a left turn. traffic is very busy on that road , but you will

not hear toomuch as the campground is located off the road a bit . close to CW and about a 20 minute ride to downtown Charleston . all of the good tours leave from the old train station located on Meeting St..has a very big parking lot to park at . we did a whole day tour which included a trip to FT.Sumter . prices were very reasonable . hope this helps . enjoy your stay . these are 2 beautiful cities to visit .

Coastn,
The DW and I are going in November and we're lookig at the Oaks @ Sandy Point, in Yemassee. It is halfway between both cities and we'll be using that as our staging point for the 2 weeks we'll be there. I haven't stayed there but it looks pretty nice. It gives you other options.

Travel well,
Jim

River's End at Tybee Island is pretty tight. It is a nice enough campground, but they try to get as many campers in there as they can. If you don't mind that, you'll love Tybee. It is really laid back compared to most beach towns. The whole Savannah area is really nice. If I were going to live anywhere else but Tennessee, it would be Savannah, GA.

Check out:

The Crab Shack - Tybee

Macelwee's Seafood - Tybee

Uncle Bubba's Oyster House - between Savannah and Tybee (Paula Deen's brother)

The Lady and Son's - downtown Savannah (Paula Deen). Note: you have to be there at 8:30 in the morning to get on a waiting list for the day.

The Pirate House - downtown Savannah.

All great eateries.

Mike,
Thanks, I'll print this and put all those eateries into the binder...seafood is a way of life for me so all of this is making my mouth water. Thanks again.

Travel well,
Jim
