Shake-Down Trip

My son and I made reservations at American Heritage campground in Williamsburg, VA for this weekend. He and his family in my old Fun Finder X I gave them after I bought my SF270BH. I just about finished packing it last night, ready to go. I left work early today because I started feeling like $&*%! The weather forecast is pretty bad, but other than having to walk the dogs and cook in the rain, I thought the rain may be good for a shake-down run to make sure I don't have any leaks. Nothing has leaked with the slides in, but I haven't really checked it with them out. But, having to be cramped inside with their young son, we have decided to postpone the trip until the end of April. The campground was very accommodating in allowing us to reschedule our reservations.

Well, the best thing is there's always tomorrow. It's nice the campground accommodated you and changed the date.
I am running your posts through my virus checker, I don't want to get sick.

Thanks for the well wishes. I survived the night. Last night's dinner was a can of ginger ale, some multi-grain crackers and Laughing Cow cheese. I bought some Triscuit crackers last week and really wanted them, but I had packed them in the camper for the trip. I didn't want to go out and open the kitchen slide so I could get to them, so I settled for the multi-grain crackers.

Well, tomorrow, 4/25, is the day we rescheduled our trip. Truck is in the backyard, backed up to the 5th wheel. I didn't hook it up yet because I wanted to keep the tonneau cover on the bed to keep the pollen out until we leave in the morning. I can hardly wait!

All hitched up ready to go. As soon as my son arrives with his TT, we're going to hit the road. We only have about 35 miles to travel, but I'm ready. We pass a CAT Scale along the way, so I plan to stop and weigh.

I got back a little while ago. I still need to bring in the dirty clothes and food from the refrigerators. Everything went very well, just minor problems (challenges).

First challenge was backing into the site. The pad was a couple of feet higher than the road in front, and the short gravel drive was very steep and was about 3" lower than the concrete. If I had put the truck in 4WD before backing in, I may not have spun the tires trying to push the camper up onto the pad. Then I couldn't straighten the truck up to back straight in because the 5th wheel across the road was so close and the hood of my truck wouldn't clear under it. So I ended up shuffling back an forth to get the camper back on the pad straight. Luckily they pulled out this morning just before I was ready to hook up.

Second issue is the only thing I have wrong with the camper now. The dump valve on the gray tank that services the shower, bathroom sink and outside kitchen sink won't close completely. I used this trip to de-winterize, so I had a lot of water and a little bleach in the fresh tank going down. When I opened the faucets to flush them and dumped that tank I noticed some pieces of plastic floating through the clear connector, so I think there may be a piece blocking the valve from closing completely. The handle won't move as far as the one on the other gray tank valve.

There was only one fatality during the trip. When I was turning the rig around in the backyard to back into the carport I ran over a mole and flattened it. I got as much of it up as I could before letting Holly & Buster out of the truck. However, they soon found the spot and did their rolling though. Bath time again!

Glad to hear it Went well. Sorry about the mole but your yard will thank you. You might want to check out the rally board for the Mason Dixon group rally in VA in Oct.
