After the Texas Rally in March we plan on heading down to the Rio Grande Valley for a month or so. Am unfamiliar with the area so would appreciate any campground recommendations, places not to miss, etc. There are so many campgrounds to choose from I hope some of you have had some personal positive experience with some of them. Thanks in advance for your help! I'm already tired of snow, come on March!!

Russ, are you thinking of Big Bend NP? I guess I'm just not sure what is considered Rio Grande Valley.

The Rio Grande Valley is deep South Texas. I would recommend searching rv.net and the Escapees forum for good information from snowbirds that stay in that area. Pack heat in case you have any cartel trouble.....

I just read this on RV Net. Here is the link to the article. Based on this man's opinion it sounds pretty safe right now. http://rvnewsservice.com/?p=489

looking forward to meeting you in Kerville

kieth, just bought an electric fireplace for my camper.

Is that enough "heat"

Will be in Corpus Christie for a week sometime in February.

Also, traveling through your area on the way to OKC.

will give you a shout.

Thanks, all, for the tips. Got me doing research and excited enough that I'm leaving tomorrow on a "scouting trip" to South Texas in advance of our longer trip in March. Two weeks probably ought to do it...wait... it's starting to snow...maybe three weeks. I'm going solo and Joyce is resigned to the shoveling chores. Also looking forward to meeting y'all at the Texas Rally. Cheers!

My sister goes to TX and they have a place near Almo TX and the campground is called Casade Vella. We plan on going down there the latter part of March and checking it out as we may go there next winter. We will be in Lake Charles LA. for Far Tuesday on March 8. Good Luck and may see you in late March.

There are lots of nice RV parks around the Houston area.

State, Corp, nation forest and private.

All within 100 miles of Houston.

Coming this way or through on I-10 let me know and we would love to meet you.

Do some research on line and look for some Casino camping.

Here is the site my DW uses

http://www.casinocamper.com/States.htm

Always welcome and good security and good food.

Even if they don't have a campground you can spend the night.

Marvin
